allrighty , feel like a heel for not scraping the ice off then coming back in to test before posting concern but it honestly didnt look like alot .

I dug out my roof rake , added the extender and gently scraped off the ice on the dish itself then gently tapped the cables where they are connected as they were iced up too .

came back in and were at 90+ signal on both 91 and 82

my EHD seems pooched on one my 6131's -- it had a good 6+ years run

can anyone suggest a good quality replacement (I like the 2 TB range)that comes with the required specs

a link to the exact product would be great , even if sent by pm

maybe something I can order on amazon easily .

For probably less or equal money you can buy a Western Digital Gold series 2T with a Vantec 3.5" external enclosure. Then you know you have the best. With what you linked to who knows what make the HD is, not to mention not all of these type of external drives will work with a Sat RX.

Receiver cycling on and off.

I tried doing a search in case this has been addressed before but didn't come up with anything. I'm having trouble with a 6131 receiver cycling the power on and off. I know the signal coming in is good because my other receiver (3100) works fine on either cable running into the house. Both cables coming into the house from the dish have one side of each LNB feeding a SW21 switch. I'm getting green for both satellites in system info and 100% on my signal strength. The cables running into the house are 75' in length. I connected the 6131 receiver to my tv before the cables had been run and accessed the receiver and smart chip numbers to activate it on my account. But when I connected the satellite cable after it was installed, it just sat there with the power light turning on and off. There is a minor difference in the screen brightness on the tv between when the receiver is on and off, you can watch the screen and see a little flash and change in brightness when it turns on or off, but nothing else. I tried letting it sit connected for about 20 minutes in case it was doing something it needed to do with no change. Holding the power button to try to do a reset does nothing. I got this receiver used so I can't say that it's not damaged other than it seemed to work fine until I connected the satellite cable.

Brand new batteries in the remote and it's working fine with the other receiver but I changed them out anyway after reading your suggestion just to definitely eliminate that as the problem. No change. Thanks for the suggestion though!

when u checked the rcvr and smartchip info, did you happen to take note of the rcvr's
software version? Wonder if ur receiver is trying to take a new software download from the satellite, possible it is old, having come to you 2nd hand...
Would have no idea what is considered new and what is old, but maybe someone else with the same rcvr currently working can tell you?

I guess I might let it sit overnight connected to the satellite and see if it eventually boots up in the AM?

Error Code 005

I recently plugged in my Bell 6131 receiver and as soon as the download the programming I had a screen come up saying "your smart card does not currently have authorization to view or purchase this program. Please wait or channel up or down. troubleshooting help? Visit: support.be.ca/TV

Now we have had our receiver off for the last couple months seeing that we have been through some renos but I re synced the receiver on the website and still get this error. When I do get to this screen I can go into the setup page and change settings if need be but the preview screen on the side I can can hear the audio but I don't get any picture. If I want to go back to full screen I get the error message. Any ideas on why I can't clear this?

Thanks in advance

Hello, need some assistance re compatibility of my 6131 Bell Satellite HDTV receiver with my Sony 4K uhdtv model XBR A9G (2019). I have tried all manner of Sony suggested procedures but unable to control the 6131 using the Sony remote (rmf-tx600u).

The 6131 is hdmi connected to the tv and recognized during the setup including the model # 6131 and Bell Satellite provider but it ends there ... no channel changes or other elements of the of the receiver such as "menu" or "Channel guide" etc. So I am left with having to use the Bell remote for tv channel changing and power ... and the tv remote for all things offered on the TV.

Hoping someone can confirm that the 2 units are compatible and can point to any clues why I am unable to connect.

Thanks.

So your trying to use the SONY remote to control the Bell Satellite Receiver? Just because you cant get that to work does not mean its broken. Your Bell is probably not compatible with the Sony remote. Now on the other hand, you CAN use the Bell remote to control your Bell receiver, And for your info, it works automatically like that out of the box, this is how 95% of the population control their satellite boxes, with the supplied remote from the provider. You dont have to be stuck with 2 remotes, you can also use the same Bell remote to power on and off your TV, and as well control your TV volume too. This is what I did for the last half decade when I had a 6131. You really dont need the Sony remote any more you should just use one and most people prefer to use the Bell one.

if your really stuck on wanting to use the Sony remote, why not call up sony and ask their support team if its compatible with Bell (or Echo Star or Dish Network) theyre likely the same code theyre all made by the same company anyways.

Thank you for the response. All you have written is true and my Sony remote did in fact control the 6131 until about Dec. 2020 when I suspect a firmware update (around then) to the Sony A9G (Android tv) may have affected the capability. The Sony remote since/now does not pair with the 6131.

The Sony cable box setup processes recognizes Bell as a provider and the model 6131 in it's setup screens but pairing does not occur and hence no channel changing is permissible.

I have of course dealt with Sony and as is often the case they off load the responsibility to the other vendor! One Sony rep mentioned a RF setting change in the 6131 ... I have no idea why this might be so since both the 6131 & Sony remotes are IR. Have found no RF reference (other than in the audio settings) which is not used.

The reason I wish to use the Sony remote is because of access to all of the TV centric smart settings and apps that the 6131 remote could not control.

I continue to use both remotes (not a big deal) but it "bugs" me that it used to work (the pairing) for about 6 mos. and then poof!
