Thanks so much for your reply Dr.Dave! So does the same hold true for the Cogeco Motorola DCT6416 III? I've read that larger drives can be used up to 2TB, but if not formatted correctly, they will only partition to the original drive size of 160GB. How does one get around this? Thanks!
Get a 1TB AV drive like the Western Digital WD10JUCT (<$100.00 on-line).
Btw, thanks to Dundas I've got this drive on order through Amazon for $90 ;)

Thanks so much for the reply 57! But as that thread goes back a whole 10 years, I'm wondering what the latest is with max drive size allowed in this unit? Does it matter whether it is Cogeco (what I am) or Shaw? Also is the WD Green 7200rpm still the way to go, or would a 5400rpm (like in the Pace units) be better with regards to heat.
Thanks!

Sorry for the late response. I initially read your post on the go, and forgot to respond to it back at my desk.

Here is a Cogeco thread from 2017 that refreshed my memory. It sounds like you will have to order a drive that is pre-formatted for the Motorola. I don't know if the max is 1 TB, but you can check with the supplier - he is quite knowledgeable and prices are reasonable. Several forum members have used his services.

Ok I've put my Motorola on hold for now since my HDD for the Pace arrived yesterday. After a relatively simple switch out for the old one, I plugged it all in, and and it said 'boot' a few times on the screen. Then it went blank except for the little yellow 'mail' light which kept flashing on and off. I turned the Pace 'On' and the number '0' showed as well as the flashing mail light, but the tv screen was blank. The buttons on the remote also provided no response. I left the machine on overnight and it was exactly the same way this morning. How long does the re-initialization process take? Any idea if that's what the display on the Pace should look like while its trying to reset itself, or is it just stuck and failed the whole process? Thanks again!

Now back to trying to figure out what I need to do to upgrade my Motorola box! ;)

Ok, so from what I've read throughout the threads up until 2017, for a Cogeco Motorola 6416 box, pretty much the only option to upgrade the HDD (as my 320GB drive still works ok), is to order a 1 TB pre-formatted HDD through that company out in B.C., correct? Is it still only Shaw, and not Cogeco that has the eSATA port enabled, and is the limit still only 1TB? If someone with the most recent knowledge regarding this can confirm, then I'll go ahead and order from the etailer.
Just curious though, if this still holds to be true, how does that one company manage to format their drives? You'd think someone else would've figured this out by know and posted it on here? ;)
Thanks as always for everyone's help!

The Motorola 6416 is limited to 1 TB by firmware. You need a DCX3400 or newer to use a 2 TB hard drive.

The Motorola 6416 is very old hardware. If Cogeco hadn't changed their procedures to allow external hard drives previously, I doubt that they would now.

I don't think there's a great mystery to selling a pre-formatted hard drive - you just need the right hardware connected to Shaw Cable.

Sounds good Dr Dave, I guess I'm ordering a pre-formatted drive tonight!
Too bad after all this time they still don't allow an external for the Moto box yet do for the Pace? My thoughts for the pre-formatting were I assumed a drive formatted through the Shaw system wouldn't work in Cogeco's, and vice versa,
but I'm glad that they do! ;)

So I had to switch from my good old Moto box after all these years to a Pace box due to a possible failure of one of the tuners. I'm not too crazy about the Pace due to it being a LOT more sluggish in response than the Moto, and the very hard to read tiny blue clock on the front. But I'm wondering if anyone else is having this particular issue... I always left my Moto box on so that when I turned my tv on I could always rewind whatever program was playing at the time to catch up on what I had missed...however with the Pace, at odd times I'll come back to it and find it has turned itself off? This is usually after it has recorded a program, but not always. Is there some new setting on the Pace that tells it to exhibit this behavior?
Thanks!
