Almost "Q", the method I would envisage would be the use of 2 x 8 way switch's, these are a regular inventory item, these would then be used to feed 3 x SW44's giving 12 outlets. There are 6 way switch's but not in Bell's standard inventory.

As for cost oh well theat is another matter;

New Rental on a 2 year term;

First 4 tuners free, so that would be Dish/LNBF's, 1 x SW44.
2 x 8 way switch's @ $150 each $300
2 x SW44's @ $150 each $300
7 x Extra lines @ $50 each $350

Grand total $950

I have seen customers with installations where this amount is on a work order a few times in the past, I am just thankful that the Technicians do not have to collect payment, like they used to, now all the customer does is sign the workorder and then it is upto Bell to invoice the customer. Do not forget, the paperword (Work Order) signed by the Customer does NOT go to Bell, it stays with the Installation Company unless the Customer has a query about any charges. So exactly what bell would invoice is a guess.

For the DIY crowd, I paid about $20 (each) for my 2x8 switches, $40 (only need 1 as one came with the rental) for the SW44 and $0.39/m for RG6. Switches acquired through online sources, cable at Home Depot.

:)

I know..... It is scary isn't it.....lol

I was actually typing that method using sw38 but then thought that there might be a problem if two certain receivers accessed the same transponder. I actually do believe it will work but didn't want to give bad advice for something I have not done or seen. I forgot to add........"maybe Pinza will chime in"

From a cost point on getting DP equipment you would be paying about

$100 for DPP44
$20 for DP34
$25 DP twin or quad
$10-20 for 4 DPP separators

9242 Install Help ...

Hi,

This is my first day on the forums, but I think I am in the right place for this post. I picked up a 9242 before they were completely phased out. I have a few installation questions, any help would be appreciated. I have done a fair amount of research on how to install, this is my understanding;

I have 2 dual input LNB's, therefore I will run 2 cables from each LNB into a SW-44. My first question, is a SW-44 the same as a 4x4 switch? I am assuming my 9242 will not come with one in box, so if I purchased something like this http://www.satmancanada.com/index.3.jpg would it be suitable? I have seen some discussion about SW-44 that have power inverters and what not, I really do not understand that, is it required?

In terms of the switch, once I figure out which one I need, does it matter what ports I use to connect the 2 (91) and the 2 (82) LNB's? For example if the switch has Input 1,2,3,4 ... would I connect 91, 82, 91,82, or 91,91,82,82 or does it make any difference?

Finally, once I have connected the 9242 using 2 cables from the switch output, if I wanted to connect a 3rd receiver (standard definition receiver) would that work? How does the receiver know that it needs to run off the 91 LNB (standard def) and not the 82? I hope this is somewhat clear, and that I do not sound like a moron. Please, any help will be greatly appreciated.

OK, well lets start by saying welcome.

Now, if this is your first receiver/account with Bell why not let them do the installation.? They would provide the Dish, LNBF's, SW44 etc and run both lines to the 9242 all for free.

That said, if you choose to go your own way, your link showed a switch I am not familiar with, it looks like the inputs on the right are using a 22Khz tone to access them. If I am correct it will not work with the 9242.

The SW44 requires to Power Inserter to provide power to the SW44 itself, leave out the power inserter, the switch will not work.

Inputs are 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, I always use 91 LNBF into 1a & 1b, then 82 into 2a & 2b, this works.

Connecting an SD receiver to ports 3 or 4 will allow that receiver to acces all the SD channels on 91 & 82, so it will see extra channels on 82 that the second LNBF is picking up.

Thank you for the welcome, and thanks for your very helpful response. I am existing customer, so this install is up to me. I have an interest in this kind of stuff anyways, so I would like to try it.

That being said, can you, or anyone else viewing provide a link to an SW-44 switch that is 100% known to work for the 9242 since the link I gave is to a switch that likely will not function properly. To clear everything up with the SW-44 switch, is it ok to leave it outside and simply have it plugged in inside, or does the entire switch need to be inside? Also, the 82 LNB is my left LNB and 91 is the right, correct?

Thanks for all of the help.

Without climbing through a field of snow I cannot remember which way round the LNBF's are but don't panic, it is written on the "Y" yolk.......lol

As you going to do it yourself, I would run all 4 lines into the house and mount the SW44 indoors. It is weather proof but by placing it inside it will make troubleshooting much easier.

Help with SW44A and SW44 Cascade set-up on BEV.

I had the system running flawlessly on just the SW44. I added a SW44A on to the set-up and now I am losing channels. Now I get an error message when I run check switch stating that fewer satellites are found. Also, on my 9200 I now get no signal on tuner 2.

This set up worked perfectly this summer at my previous house. When we moved I only set up 3 receivers and now I am adding the others. the BEV installer would not add the SW44A when I moved and I didn't need the extra TVs right away so I just let it go... I reconnected the SW44A and now I am losing channels...

Also when I run the check switch it keeps showing just SW44. When I had it working well before it was showing SW44A.

Any thoughts on how to correct this problem????? I have unplugged the machine to do a hard reset many times and I have run the check switch many times as well. no luck... please help

I have the same setup, but my system info screen only shows SW44 for the switch type. I don't actually see the SW44A, even though its been working for many years like this.

Have you considered a bad cable between the SW44A and SW44? Are the LNBF cables connected to the SW44A in the right order?

-Mike

Not sure about bad cable....

Order of cables... I took them out of the 44 one at a time and connected them directly to the 44A seperately...

How would I check a bad cable?

The order is the same as the SW44, so that rules that out. Did you make the cables between the switches, or buy them? If you have a spare, you could try swapping each one. I take it you have a power injector on port 1 of both the SW44A and SW44 switches?

-Mike

You do have the SW44a feeding the SW44.?

SW44 alternatives

Hi,
I just ordered a 9242 through the source (hopefully they were not incorrect when they said they had stock online).
Anyway, I have the standard fair dual lnb's (one dish, one for each bell sat).
I also have a SW44 that I picked up a few years ago as I was about to get more receivers but never did. Unfortunately I have lost the power inserter and power supply.
Questions:
- does the receiver come with the SW44?
- can you buy the power inserter and power supply separately anywhere?
- are there any alternatives to the SW44 where I don't have to use power? I have some FTA diseq's and SW21. Will they work?

Thanks.

Hi lip, yes you can use 2 sw21's for the 9242 if its the only reciever because you've used all your outputs.
No telling whether The Source is selling the receiver only or the package that has the dish and sw44 etc. You'll have to ask them.
All 3 of my 92xx's came with the dish and everything, from FS or BB. Other people bought receiver only.
I don't think anybody sells PS & Inserter separately.

Just wondering if it doesn't come with the dish/sw44, will bell send it to me? I have no need for the installation as I already have the cabling done...just need the SW44 but wouldn't mind an extra dish as well.

If it is your first veture into HD, Bell will do a free installation including ALL the parts required.
