Nuje,
Please describe what you did to get 6 outputs.
Q
Thanks Q. Sorry for the delay in replying. On the road travelling all day yesterday.

Anyway, I had it set up as the cables coming from the LNBs going into the powerpass splitters, and then those going to two SW44s. Like diagram #1 from the SW44 how-to thread.

I didn't really pay attention to which RG6 (82 or 91) was going where - is that the deal-breaker there? Does an 82 line have to split to 1a and 1b on each switch, with the runs from 92 splitting to the 2a and 2b on each switch?

It matters in that both feeds from one sat must go into either 1a/1b or 2a/2b as a set. Many say it doesn;t matter if 91 is on 1a/1b and 82 is on 2a/2b or if 91 is on 2a/2b and 82 is on 1a/1b or not. I put 91 odd/even on 1a/1b and 82 odd/even on 2a/2b always myself.

It will not work correctly if you have 1 feed from 91 on 1a and one feed from 82 on 1b and the other feed from 91 on 2a and the other feed from 82 on 2b i.e. splitting across inputs.

Randomly connecting multiple cables from multiple sources rarely works :)

Yeah - as I discovered. I only thought about that - how it probably DOES matter very much to have 91 going to the 1a and 1b.

When I finally determined which line was which, I hooked it up as described, ran the check switch and still came up with the big X on 91. So, I swapped the 1a to 1b and vice-versa, ran CHECK SWITCH again - success!! :D

Thanks for the clarification, guys.

Faulty lnb

I have a DishPro LNB which has some flawed whitening/loss of opacity of the plastic lens cap - patchy in upper or top area of lens cap
The flaw is on the back side or within the plastic cap - outer surface is smooth

IS this faulty?

Will it affect signal strength?

I have a picture of LNB at:

(Mods - if Imageshack links not OK, can you suggest other options)

Would welcome opinions on this before I commence the job up high
If faulty, could I replace plastic cap with a cap from a legacy LNB, and still have it water-resistant

Jeff

The lnb may be faulty however it is not from the white spots on the cap. I have seen caps like that some worse, even a cracked cap and they all worked.

New to this forum :)

Hi, first all my apologize for asking an already answered question but english is not my mother tongue (as you can see) and reading in english for me is not easy.
I got my 9242 this week and I wonder if someone could answer these questions :
- Does a Dish Pro Plus Twin LNB would work for me as I need both 82 and 91 sats on each tuner of my 9242 and 91 only on my 5900. BUT I only want two cables down from my roof ?
- Does the DPP twin LNB transmit a mix of 82 and 91 on each of its two outputs ?
- Can each of these outputs then be split with a DPP separator and be fed to the two tuners of the 9242 (providing 82 AND 91 on each tuner) ?

Thank you for your help !

Help

Hi Guys,
I know this has already been explained, but too be honest this is all very new, and none of the termanology means anything. I have just upgraded from a 3100 receiver to a 9241. I haven't got it set up yet, as I have been informed that I need to upgrade my satellite dish. I think the dish size itself is fine, but I may need some switches/LNB's????? The dish has one digital LNBF on it, with one cable in it, and one spare screw in area.
Basically I will only have one receiver (the 9242) and I want to use it for two TV's where I can watch two channels independently. Could someone be kind enough to let me know exactly what I need to buy, and anywhere I could buy the items. Again, I apologise, however, the terms switches/LNB's do not mean anything, so any advise for a 'simple' guy would be appreciated.
Thanks

First of all, which receiver do you have, the 9241 or 9242? The 9242 is the only one that can feed two televisions and have different programming on each.

ScOOter,

Using a 9242 I have the following:

- Dish 1000 with a dual DPP and DP LNB
(two seperate lengths of RG6 in from the dish to the house)
- One coax connects to a splitter ( dish seperator)at the back of the 9242 then to sat #1 & #2 inputs of the unit. This is signal to the main (HD) tv.
- A coax can then be run from the tv #2 output of the 9242 unit to another tv using remote #2
- Now the other coax from the dish which I still have not used connects to my 811 unit for a third tv. So, really you can easily connect three tv sets to this set up having two receivers and watch different programs on all of them.

Hi Probak118,
Thanks for you all help and advice. Do you know recommend any places I should get this from? I have looked on certain websites, but I'm unsure on exactly what I'm getting. Also, is there a certain type of splitter I need?
Many thanks

Not even sure you need to use the older LNBs that I am. Perhaps the newer triple head LNB would work the same ? If all you need is both the 82 & 91 bird just go out and buy a dish 500 with a DP twin head. That will bring two lengths of coax to your 9242 receiver and therefore feed two tv sets.

Bell approved LNB/switch setup for 11 tuners

So if I had eleven tuners (e.g. five 9200's, one 6100 - note all DishPro designated on back), what would be the "Bell approved" combo or combos of LNB's and switches?

I do have a couple of DishPro LNB, as a possible starter

If it was a 6000 (not a 6100 - the 6000 is not DishPro), what would be the recommended combination?

Help appreciated

Thanks
Jeff

Jeffnoone,

I believe the "Bell approved" method would be:

2 lines from each lnb would go into SW34 multiswitch's. You then connect those into 2 SW44 switch yielding 8 outputs. You then put up another dish with a SW44 to give you 4 more.

I would go DP or DPP for sure. If you have no issues running two cables into each dual tuner then cascading DP34 switches is best.

If you don't want to run 2 cables to each dual tuner then I recommend the DPP44 switch.

The DPP44 switch is a bit expensive and with separators would cover 4 dual tuner receivers. It can be a bit of a waste getting another DPP44 and only using 2 of the outputs. Another option which I have not included in the installation threads and is a bit cheaper is cascading a DPP33 switch or a DP34 switch off the DPP44 switch. With the DP34 switch you can not use a separator so one dual tuner will need two lines.

Here is thread on cascading with DP/DPP

Here is thread for cascading with legacy
