Good news! Shaw has finally entered the new TV era and now has live 4K channels. Was going through the guide today and there is TSN4K on channel 216, SN4K on 217 and SN14K on 218. Looks awesome! Watching live Ryder Cup in 4K on TSN right now and Blue Jays in 30 is on the SN4K channel right now. Woman's soccer is on SN14K.
I just saw this post on the Shaw section. Did TSN really show the Ryder Cup in 4K? I'm skeptical about the soccer. I assume he was watching the FA Women's Super League and I don't think that is produced in 4K in the UK.

TSN is better that it only puts 4K programs on its 4K channel.
That's why I was surprised by the guy who thought he was watching the Ryder Cup in 4K on TSN. I did a little research and it doesn't look like it was even shot in 4K.
SN keeps putting HD programs on its SN 4K and SN1 4K channels.
Some people say the picture is better on the Sportsnet 4K channels even if it's only HD because it's less compressed.

I would agree the picture on the SN4K channel is better than standard SN. I think it is because of the compression as mentioned above. My big question is why neither SN or TSN is picking up 4K feeds from other broadcasters for events like the Super Bowl, Olympics, etc. Is there an extra cost charged for them to pick it up? If the broadcast is there and they have the channel there really is no reason not to pick it up unless there is some sort of cost issue I would think.

I would suspect that the better picture is due to the upconversion being done with much better equipment by the broadcaster or by the service provider, rather than at the STB or the TV.

The above FAQ was created mainly for HD, rather than 4K, but the same logic applies.

I thought that SN did show some Olympics programming in 4K, according to that thread. The last Super Bowl wasn't produced in 4K due to Covid. The previous year was the first "4K production", but it was actually shot in 1080p and upscaled for the broadcast.

There wasn't complete consensus that SN had Olympics in 4K and since Sportsnet shows non-4K stuff on their 4K channels it's hard to know for sure.
I haven't seen anything shown from the olympics in 4k on the 4k Sportsnet channels. Pretty sure they're only showing 1080p.
Some guys seemed pretty sure that Sportsnet had 4K Olympic events, Rogers had 4K events on demand, and the Sportsnet app had some 4K events.

I watched quite a bit of the olympics and never noticed the SN4K logo that they put up for home Leafs or Blue Jays games when they broadcast those in 4K. I also think it would be something that would be very marketable and they'd be shouting from the rooftops that they are showing the olympics in 4K as that would be a first in Canada I think. I did pay closer attention to quality after the 4K claim but I still think it was 1080p upscaled. I didn't watch any on demand so it's possible that it could have been 4K.

Negative. SN did put several events on their SN4K channel, but they were simulcast of SN-Ontario, not true 4K.

IIRC, SN has only shown Jays home games in 4K, nothing else. This could change in the future.

IIRC, SN never had a 4K schedule like TSN (below). If you went to the SN TV schedule, found a programme, it would tell you what channels it was on and indicate if it was available in 4K. I didn't see anything on their website currently in 4K.

TSN has a 4K schedule, see link below:

I'm going from memory in all this, so I could be wrong.
