#31# is the GSM standard for call blocking and has always worked. *67 was basically an override that they had to program into the switch and did not always work properly. It is just easier for them to get rid of the legacy codes.

 

#31# is actually part of the GSM spec, its been available for YEARS on Rogers and Fido, and Other GSM carriers all over the world. *67 is actually a code that bell canada came up with, and everyone got so used to it, people were complaining before the GSM networks were launched in canada that everyone would forget the new code, so they decided to use the old code as LEGACY. They never advertized *67 or *82, but it was the customers who started telling everyone else to use these codes. The carriers have always told you to use #31# and *31# from day one, not my fault no one pays attention.

I have been with Rogers Wireless (and its various incarnations) for 16 years and this is the very first time I have ever heard of the code #31# and believe me, I certainly do pay attention. I also don't ever recall them telling me to use this code for call blocking either.

FWIW, I called customer service earlier today and after being transferred to both tech support and their data department, neither one of them had any idea the use of this code had become mandatory on their own network. I also did a search on rogers.com for "#31#" and unless they've added it in the last few hours, nothing tuned up there either. I guess #31# must be a well kept secret at Rogers Wireless.

BTW, and please forgive my ignorance, but what does/did the codes *82 and *31# do?

 

I just tried a Google search on Rogers.com and came up with the user guide that was printed in 2005.

It says to use *67 for TDMA and #31# for GSM

 

That's interesting Dr. Dave. I just did another search on Rogers Wireless for "call blocking" and this is what came back:

No pages were found containing "call blocking".

Suggestions:

* Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
* Try different keywords.
* Try more general keywords.

Huh? What it is I am I doing wrong that is causing these results?

BTW, thanks for the clarification on *82 and *31# dcomp11. I have honestly never seen or heard of these two particular codes before.

Apparently I should have been using the phrase "Name_Display" in my search.

 

Does anyone know if there's a way a rogers wireless user can block incoming SMS messages? I don't mean from "premium" sources, but from someone who I simply don't want texting me.

FWIW, my recollection has always been #31#.

And yes, you can have SMS blocked. Just call Rogers and ask them to put the block on your account. It's an all-or-nothing block, though. I had asked them to just block US/Intl but they couldn't do it.

I have an iphone, to block a call I type #31 Plus the phone # i want to block?

and there is no charge for this I assume?
