Using Third Party ADSL2+ modem

I currently have just MTS DSL Internet. I don't have TV or home phone service through MTS.

Does anyone know whether I can use a third party DSL modem/router, such as a TP-Link TD-8840T?

Will MTS give me grief if I don't use their modem?

I have never heard of anyone using a third party DSL modem with MTS but guess it is possible. Keep in mind though that MTS has been working for years to get their customers onto VSDL and more recently fiber. I suspect that even if they allow third party modems you might have a higher level of resistance if you are trying to do it on ASDL.

Out of personal curiousity, what do you hope to gain by using a third party router?
