I have never heard of anyone using a third party DSL modem with MTS but guess it is possible. Keep in mind though that MTS has been working for years to get their customers onto VSDL and more recently fiber. I suspect that even if they allow third party modems you might have a higher level of resistance if you are trying to do it on ASDL.

Out of personal curiousity, what do you hope to gain by using a third party router?

 

I am in an ADSL only area.

I'd like to have a gateway with proper bandwidth management and QOS options. MTS gave me an Actiontec GT724WG, and while it works fine, it's has very poor QOS options. I need to control QOS because I'm using VOIP for phone service.
