unorthodox setup with hose clamps & non-standard lnb

Hi all. Chances are, your answers will be "get a whole new dish", which I'm leaning to. But I'd like to see if something else can be done first.

So, how to start. Maybe from the beginning.

My in-laws have a dish/LNB that has a weird connection between the LNB & the arm (see picture below). It just had 91 connected initially. A few years back, the LNB died. Since its a weird one (maybe someone here can recognize it), instead of replacing it, I just brought a new 'normal' LNB, connected it to the side of the existing weird one with a hose clamp, re-aligned the dish slightly, and continued to receive 91.

So that's been good for a while now. And it's still good. But recently, they finally upgraded their 2700 (or 2800 or 3100 or whatever) SD receiver to a 6400. So we need 82 as well.
I didn't know if it would work, since its only a ~20" dish (I think), but I grabbed another LNB, put it on the side, right beside the current 91 (the grey Zinwell), hoping to get 82. At best I thought it would work perfectly, at worst I thought I might get like 20-50 signal, and it wouldn't be enough, etc.
However, I was surprised to get 0 signal. Not even a sniff. I tried with 2 different LNB's, but in both cases I got nothing.

So now finally, my questions.
1. Should it work to add a 'third' LNB to a ~20" dish?
1b. Even if it doesn't work, shouldn't I at least get a little bit of signal? Am I doing something completely wrong?
2. Assuming I can't get 82 this way, is it possible to replace that broken LNB in the picture? If so, I can replace it, use it as 91, then use the Zinwell that's there as 82 (would need a bit of re-alignment). Right?
But does anyone know what kind of LNB that is? And where to get a replacement (and how much)?
If it helps, the dish that it came with says "Hughes Network Systems" and "DSS" on it. Not sure if that's a Direct TV hardware or what.

Thanks in advance...

Looks like a very old DirecTv setup to me.

That Dish is made for Single Sat reception, so it will focus the signals on just 1 LNBF. Adding another alongside might get some slight amount of signal but nothing much. The 2nd Sat (82) is at a different elevation and seeing as that Dish is not skewed the chances of catching enough signal is almost zero.

I would think the chances of getting a replacement LNBF are slim.

A new 20" (51cm) Bell Dish or a Dish 500 as used by Dish Network would be my suggestion, then replace those antique LNBF's with a DPP Twin, so there is no need for a switch.

New Bell Dish's can be had for only a few $ and there are lots of used ones around, just re-use the existing Mast, re-point and away you go.
