PVR Reboots usually when trying to access ROD

Hey Guys,

I came across an issue with my 8300 today and was wondering if you knew what the problem might be. I tried to access Rogers on Demand. A message on the tv said something like "accessing ROD, please wait" and about 10 seconds later the PVR rebooted. I tried it once on channel 100 and again on 300 and both times it rebooted. Any idea what the issue might be.

Thanks,
Scott

Do a hard reboot on your machine.

If the problem persists then it sounds like Rogers ROD programming problems are back. Rogers has had this same problem (system crash when accessing VOD) several times over the years.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the help. It's now working although taking a little longer than normal to get to the ROD screen. I checked the signal strength. I was getting a -10 than a -11. I thought that was the problem. Kind of surprised at that because i haven't had that bad a number before and nothing in the signal chain has changed. I did a hard reboot. I then checked the signal strength and it's now at -2 and I can get to the ROD section. Not sure why a reboot would improve signal strength but it did. Thanks again.

I've noticed that after a reboot pix quality is noticeably much better.

Had all my machines rebooted by Rogers at about 4:24 AM today and the non pvr boxes rebooted within the last two days.

Is something "coming down the pipe" shortly?

Reboots from Rogers

Another reboot from Rogers yesterday morning at about 9:30 or so...

I think this might be the wrong area to post these...

Moderator - feel free to move these posts and my apologies to you and the forum.

HD PVR Rebooting

Have A Cisco HD8642 PVR. Have had considerable problems with PVR locking up and rebooting (using when accessing OnDemand) but not all the time. Replaced it 3 times w/ new one, Rogers have been kind enough to swap it. I cannot be the only one with this issue. Is it a flaky hard drive or what?
Any recourse?
Thanks.

I used to have this issue ALL the time. Multiple digital boxes (exchanged), at multiple addresses, etc...

Since switching to the 8642 it no longer reboots, but the new thing is that the program fails to load, and then ALL of my channel are broken until a reboot. They have a message along the lines of "This channel is currently unavailable".

I don't watch a ton of ROD anymore (gee, I wonder why), so it's hard to guess how often it happens to me. If I had to guess, maybe 1 out of 5 times... the old reboot issue happened at least half the time or more though. That was over a year ago though.

"This channel is currently unavailable".
Please read the following FAQ regarding SDV and ROD issues. You have something upstream blocking the signal to the head end.

Could be a bad splitter, a power bar, poor connection, or perhaps something outside your home in the line to your home. The reason the newer STB may work for a while is because the connection to the back of it may be a bit better, or it requires slightly less signal. The problem though is not with the STB.
