I wonder how they did find out. Was it this thread or someone reporting it directly to Industry Canada?

the call-sign was for Star Ray TV. before they had that, their experimental license call-sign was VX9AMK. I don't think these guys even have a call-sign... though i wonder what equipment they're using to broadcast.

Back in the early 80's we had a pirate in Hamilton.... CFME.... Not sure who complained but his production was quite professional in nature. I think what didn't help was the over-deviation of the FM carrier and the fact he was stomping on popular out of market signals with a fair amount of power.... :) It was receivable in Dundas....

He got canned as far as I know. Don't know the details though of that process.

That VA3 call sign is registered to a person living on Main St. in Toronto, not some TV station. Under the radio regulations, an amateur radio licence is not allowed to be used for broadcasting.

CRTC is really a pain in the a**. Asking me what i think about Cable/TV local war going on, and if i should pay a cable TAX.
Your not the first pirate to be stomped on by them. Why don't you continue your online radio show, that way you can't get into trouble with them. They can only regulate so much. LOL. And the internet is a grey area for them.

A STUPID CANADIAN COMPLAINED BECAUSE CANADIANS ARE SO JEALOUS THE FIRST WEEK I OPENED
Yeah us Canadians like to complain about 2 things. The weather and Pirate radio. ;)

If you think the government does not monitor the airwaves then you are incredibly naive.

Have you considered the possibility that one of your LEGAL competitors complained? You know, the ones who pay a large amount of money to have the frequency they use?

Little tip: if you are trying to offer a service to a group of people, calling them stupid is generally not a good business plan.

Not only that, your address comes up where the radio station is on the web...

Which would put it , just north of Mitch Owens Road in gloucester

And when you start public announcing radio, and word gets around, who knows who hears all about it. I have to agree with the previous thread. A legal station could of well said something , who knows.

I think your just beginning to understand the complexity of the legalities of the situation.
Taking such a hobby past the boundaries of its intent can really have some ramifications later on

I know you mean well, and it was probably fun. But the Government Owns the airwaves, media and media companies just rent them , through licensing. And its not cheap. I know it doesn't seem fair, but that's the way it is.

Listen up MIX FM because I am going to school you. Industry Canada is the government agency responsible for policing the Canadian airwaves, not the CRTC. Only a truly stupid broadcaster would not know that. :D

The entire broadcast spectrum within Canada's borders belongs to the citizens of Canada, so the government agency has 100% authority to set regulations and police its usage. When an applicant for a radio station license submits their documentation it must include very detailed, thorough, and professionally engineered technical data. Industry Canada's experts evaluate that data and add/correct what is needed, then when all technical concerns have been addressed satisfactorily the process goes to the CRTC for license approval or denial.

So, when someone is polluting our airwaves with gear and broadcast parameters that have not been professionally engineered and certified by the authorities they are directly jeopardizing the wellbeing of legal, licensed, by-the-rulebook radio stations, as well as possibly harming frequencies across other parts of the spectrum used by emergency communications, businesses, medical equipment, aircraft, and other legally abiding users due to harmonics and other interference patterns. Only a really stupid person would not know how dangerous their pirate broadcasting activities can be.

Stupid is as stupid does

Why because we are all smarter than you ;)

You're Canadian too MIX-FM. Pretending to be American was a clever way to cause a little confusion and delay the inevitable, but you set up shop in the wrong part of town to not get noticed.

Some nice engineering work on the signal though. You guys sounded technically quite good.

He resides in Canada (his IP address proves that) but that doesn't mean he is Canadian.
