Just saved a pair of Zenith Allegro 3000 speakers from the landfill

I am always amazed at what gets put into a landfill. Sad really.

Anyhoo my son and I noticed a big pile of electronic at the end of a driveway on garbage day. We asked the owner if I could take some of it. He said sure. He even said it all works too.

So I picked up the speakers like these,

and a Goldstar Stereo Dual Cassette Receiver and CD player.

Not exactly high quality but it found a home and not the landfill and my kids love it. Now they have their very own kick-butt stereo in the basement. The AUX input was used to connect an MP3 player. FM radio comes in quite good. I pulled out my box of store bought and pirated mixed tapes. I forgot how much I miss seeing graphic equalizer bars. :)

I think I am missing a data cable as the CD player does not have an RCA input but appears to use some type of ribbon cable. Some internet searching is in order.

There were also two vintage record players which I left behind. They would have made some nice eye candy but I fear inadvertently becoming a junk collector. :)

Yes, but I'm also saddened when I have perfectly good looking electronics and for some no doubt minor reason they do not work and it costs an arm and a leg for the labour charges for someone to even look at them to identify what the minor repair is, so I fully understand why they get scrapped.

There is more space in the landfills than there is in our lives and homes to chase around or store all this stuff. Not to mention the WAF ...

If only all the Environmental Handling fees we pay were actually used to provide repair services - that would truly help the environment and keep stuff out of the landfills!
