Green wire from gray Rogers box to hydro box has been disconnected

There's always been a green wire running from the gray Rogers box on the outside of my house to a clamp attached to my hydro box. I noticed this afternoon that it's hanging loose and is no longer attached to the hydro box. Hmmm...I checked my neighbour's - also dangling loose. I checked one house further down, and across the street - theirs are connected. I checked two houses up, theirs are dangling loose.

This is definitely recent - I know the wires were connected before. Is something going on such that Rogers is disconnecting them? Or is it a kid messing around?

IMO I would assume it's the ground wire. Not sure why anyone would want that disconnected. Did you call Rogers to find out?

I contacted Rogers and they're going to send a technician to check it out.

This is a ground wire and should be connected to ground (like your hydro box). Re-attach it yourself and/or contact Rogers.

Thanks! I had re-attached it, but then I did some investigation and found a bunch of neighbours with them hanging loose too. I wasn't sure what to make of it so I've disconnected it and called Rogers. They're sending a technician this week.

The ground should definitely be connected. I've seen TV equipment and TVs damaged by lightning surges over ungrounded TV cable connections. That applies to buried cables as well.

Side note, NEVER do anything yourself. If you're paying for Rogers, let them do it. Rogers will never pay you to do their work, so why should you do it free?
