Hi list,
Is-it possible to use a Bell 9241 Dual receiver with no internal HD but only an external USB drive connected ?
If so, would the USB drive be able to record programs ?
I ask because I know that when the internal HD fails and need to be changed
I need to completely disconnect the 9241 and open it for the replacement..
An external drive only for everything would be BEST !
Just a thought..

Hello :)

I recognize the answer to this question is likely going to be "get a new rec you cheap bugger" but...

I have a 9241 that has recently begun doing something irritating that's only really noticeable while watching sports. The image, for lack of a better term, "stutters". It gets herky-jerky. It's not constant. It'll happen for 10 sec or so...smooth out for a few secs then stutter again.

I know it's probably the processor or some such not processing the signal fast enough due to it's age but I thought I'd check to see if anyone has any experience solving this.

Bell offered to send out a tech but I know his solution will be a new rec as I can't imagine them spending any time actually fixing a 10 year old rec.

Frankly I've just about had it with Bell anyway and will probably go to IPTV but in the interim it would be nice to watch the Jets with a smooth image.

Thanks for reading :)

Nope, there is a software update that corrected that problem. Just recently. There is multiply discussions about it on the Bell community forum.

Glad to read about this. I had the same problem from January thru late April 2025. Not every time I watched, but often. I was trying to correlate it to something like low signal strength (due to rain), high air temp in the room where the receiver is located, etc, but could not draw a real conclusion. I ended up assuming it was an aging-capacitor issue and was preparing to take the 9241 to a shop to have all the caps replaced.

DP and DPP LNBs are supposed to be compatible but there are some incompatibilities when combining DP and DPP equipment. It looks like two cables are still required when using a DP LNB and a DPP receiver like the 9241. The LNBs pictured won't work due to not having dual outputs. According to the documentation, a DPP separator only works with DPP LNBs. LNB heads made for DPP all appear to be compound head with more than one LNB built in. That may change as Bell moves to a single satellite but I' not seeing much on the Bell site or anywhere else. Bell does not even have quad DPP LNBs in stock.
