YouTube has announced that it will provide a US$10-a-month subscription service to customers in the US, beginning October 28 th , 2015. The new option, called YouTube Red, will allow paying users to watch any YouTube video ad-free across the video-hosting site.

According to an article on the National Post website, the service will add exclusive shows and movies from top YouTube creators such as PewDiePie, Lilly Singh and The Fine Brothers, starting in early 2016.

The new service could provide video creators with larger revenues than those they currently make from ads appearing on their videos. The move by YouTube is in line with steps taken by other rival streaming sites such as Vessel and Vimeo, who are trying to lure online stars with paid offerings. Facebook is also allegedly attempting to boost video viewership on its site.

While not yet available in Canada, YouTube Red will hopefully jump its American borders in the near future.

We also like videos, and dislike ads up here in the north, YouTube, FYI. Keep your eyes open.
