XM Canada announced today the company would begin offering the XM SkyDock in Canada. Previously the device was only available in the United States.

In simple terms, the SkyDock is a docking station that plugs into your cars cigarette lighter and turns for your iPod or iPhone into a satellite radio.

Inside the SkyDock is an XM tuner, FM Transmitter and an iPod connector. In order to use the device, iPod Touch/iPhone users, with a valid XM Canada satellite radio subscription, must first download and install a free App from the iTunes Canada App Store.

Once the app is installed, XM subscribers can connect the iPhone or iPod touch to the SkyDock and launch the app. The app allows control of the XM tuner using the Multi-Touch user interface on the iPod touch or iPhone. The XM SkyDock will also charge your iPod touch and iPhone while listening to live satellite radio.

XM says the SkyDock is compatible with the first and second generation iPod touch, iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. All models require iPhone OS 3.0 or later

The SkyDock will sell in Canada for $129.
