Subscription satellite radio provider, XM Canada has announced plans to launch a Blackberry smartphone App for subscribers on its XM online+ service.

The Blackberry XM online+ App features include access to 100 XM channels at 128 Kbps; a Favourites function to save your most popular stations; Look around which lets you see the current channel line-up and what is playing on them; multi-tasking so you can listen to music and surf the web at the same time.

The Blackberry app will be a free download, however, in order to use it, XM satellite radio subscribers will need to spend an additional $3 per month to listen. If you are not an XM Canada subscriber, you can subscribe to the app only version for $8 per month.

At launch, the Blackberry App will be available for the following BlackBerry models: Bold 9000, Bold 9700, Curve 8900, Curve 8520, Curve 8530, Storm 9530, Storm 9550, Tour 9630.

Not meaning to drag up and old thread but I wanted to add an update...

The XM Canada Blackberry app will work with the 8330 Curve provided you upgrade the OS to version 5.0. I won't post how to do it since it's a quick Google search away, suffice to say it's pretty straightforward and you gain some neat features version 4.5 doesn't have.

One thing to be aware of is the streaming XM will eat a lot of data (I think it's a 128 kbps rate, even mobile). So either use sparingly or try to get a generous or unlimited (in Canada? yeah right..) data plan.
