I recently got Internet cable including the basic channel programming. So far I have the cable connected to an old standard TV, which includes a buit-in electronic tuner. At the moment I'm able to watch the channels which I been subscribed only through the TV tuner. However this tuner does not have a guide, like the guides on the satellite receivers.

My questions are as follows:

I would like the Interactive Programming Guide which I believe it's only available though using their cable box, like a [guide] button on the remote control - right? I'm not sure if that is so.

-If I find a used box in a thirft store, or try to buy a refurbish unit, or get one from someone... would the Interactive Guide work, and does it have to be a particular model?

-Would I need to notify Rogers in order to activated or validated the box in order to start using it, or can I just find one and then go home and plug it?

Thank you in advance for your input.

You might want to take the time to do a search, these subjects have typically been covered heavily previously. I'm sure 57 will tell you the same but he might be kind enough to point you to a thread or two. I'm not. :)

1. The Roger IPG is only available if you have a STB.

2. There is TVGOS available on some TVs - search this site for that term - doesn't work well.

3. Here's the thread on purchasing a used STB.

4. Yes, you need to have Rogers activate it and you need to pay for digital service. You can't just plug it in
