wireless headphones picking up phones conversations, radio

I have a set of Sennheiser 900 MHz wireless headphones. When I turn off the source to the transmitter I can pick up all sorts of signals. Radio, telephone and who knows what. I can't identify some of the stations.

I just though that this was odd. With the source turned on the signal is clear and distinct and no interference. (which is good). I have set the tuning range of the transmitter to the 3 different ranges with the same effect.

I can understand the 900 Mhz telephone interference but what about all the other RF crap?

It just doesn't take much to pick up an AM modulated signal, which is probably what you're hearing. I used to get very faint whispering out of my computer speakers even. It totally freaked me out the first time I heard it late one night! Thought I was hearing voice in my head again! Doc said I was cured though, so I looked for other possibilities.
