Wipeout is hands down the best summer TV show, and as such, deserves its own thread.

I usually cancel my cable in the summer months once NBA & NHL playoffs are over. But this year I decided to keep it for one reason, and that reason is Wipeout. I can't think of a film that has made me laugh for the better part of an hour the way Wipeout does. Yes, it's cheesy as heck -thanks to the two commentators - but I'm a sucker for slapstick and Jill Wagner is a hottie.

Please feel free to discuss the show, favourite episodes, memorable characters, surprise plot twists, big balls, etc.

Oh, and did anyone here audition for Wipeout Canada? I only heard about it yesterday and now the entries are closed. Could've been my claim to fame!

I watched every episode last year and couldn't wait to see it again. They had a preview of this season in early june and it was just awesome. Happy to see it in its usual time slot.

Good night and big balls!

Agreed. There are few shows that our family of four with two young boys watches as a family, but this is one of them. The belly laughs we've gladly endured are just fantastic.

Wipeout is a pretty good show, my 4 year old just loves it. I can't help missing the old MXC show that Wipeout virtually copied. Did anyone watch that one? It was a dubbed over version of a Japanese show called "Fuun Takeshi Castle" and the cometary was absolutely hilarious!

I still remember... one episode they had this whale that spewed foam out it's blowhole... the comentators got to calling it "shamu Goo" and just kept it going... I laughed so much it hurt!

Looking at some of those wipeouts I can understand why it was cancled due to several people being injured! (No wussy padded rollers for the Japanese, those looked like solid wood!)

yeah I like MXC. I watched a few episodes of Wipeout and it's alright.
Just a bit too cheesy and copies MXC. Still a good show tho.

info from Wikipedia:
The American gameshow Wipeout on ABC has been accused of being "a blatant copycat" of shows such as Takeshi's Castle and MXC, and a copyright infringement lawsuit has been filed by TBS against ABC. Among the charges is that ABC purchased search terms such as "MXC" on Google to drive traffic to Wipeout.

MXC was brilliant... Wipeout doesn't even compare.
I have to agree, the writing on Wipeout is inferior, I think being on a major network causes them to hold back. MXC had one of my favourite commentator exchanges in the Adult Entertainment vs. Home Improvement episode.

Vic Romano: He's a sheet rocker moonlighting as a tub caulker.
Kenny Blankenship: Tub caulker? He likes fat chicks?
Vic Romano: I wouldn't know, Kenny.
Kenny Blankenship: So what does he do with his caulk?
Vic Romano: He puts it in the crack.
Kenny Blankenship: Oh, so he's in porn, then.
Vic Romano: Kenny, listen, he's in construction.
Kenny Blankenship: [confused] You say he sticks his caulk in the crack, but he's in construction... I thought you said he was a sheep stalker.
Vic Romano: I said a *sheet rocker*. Plus, I was talking about caulking compound.
Kenny Blankenship: He built a place to do this?
Vic Romano: Caulking! It's used to fill cracks!
Kenny Blankenship: Am I missing something here?
Vic Romano: Well, thanks to you, Kenny, we've pretty much missed this entire run!

:D

Cheers

It's one of my favorite TV shows in the summer. I like it because no thinking is involved to enjoy the show. I watched pretty much the whole last season on Global and also the first season in the US in 2008 where there was another game show called "I Survived a Japanese Game Show". I guess that one didn't catch on as much as Wipeout did. I'm probably one of the few who doesn't think MXC was way better than Wipeout. I don't care too much about the commentary. I just need to see some people get wiped out for me to laugh at.
