WinZip Computing today announced the availability of WinZip 14.0, the latest version of the company's compression software.

New capabilities of the venerable file compression software include support for Windows 7 enhancements, improved security and a new backup edition.

Windows 7 users will find enhancements in WinZip with make it easier to work with documents, folders, and programs including support for Windows 7 libraries, jump lists, and support for Zip files in the Windows 7 Explorer preview pane, so you can quickly see what’s inside a Zip file and double click the zipped files to open them.


In addition, Windows 7 touch screen gestures are also supported so you can "touch" your way through the contents of your Zip files and even pan, zoom, and rotate images in WinZip built-in Image Viewer without using your keyboard or mouse.

For the security conscious users, WinZip 14 introduces automatic wiping of temporary copies of encrypted files after viewing, using the U.S. Department of Defense standard (DoD 5220.22-M). In addition, the latest version recognizes Intel-based computers with built-in AES encryption and uses the available hardware support to make encryption operations two to three times faster.

WinZip 14 is available now in Standard, Backup and Pro editions for $30, $40 and $50 USD respectively. Existing registered users can upgrade for half price.
