This is pretty trivial, but Windows 7 MC often fails to show the DVD cover image in the "Movies" folder. They always show up the first time I start 7MC. But most, not all of them, disappear later when I come back to them.

I place the DVD cover image into the file "folder.jpg" in the folder were I ripped the DVD files. Like this.

.\AVATAR
.\AUDIO_TS
.\VIDEO_TS
folder.jpg

I don't have any thoughts for you on your root issue. However... you might want to give Media Browser a try (http://www.mediabrowser.tv/). It's a much richer interface, without any work. Just point it at your movies folder and it will auto-match titles and import covers, metadata, fanart, etc.

Thank you very much for that Mediabrowser product link! I hadn't seen that before but it's definitely worth a try. I like what I'm reading about it on the website. I think I may have a reason now to upgrade my living room HTPC from an XP box to Windows7!
