hey folks,

Well another nfl season is on the horizon and pre-season football is right around the corner. I see the following companies carries NFL Network in Canada and they are:

Bell ExpressVu
StarChoice
Rogers Cable
Shaw Communication

Also I was reading that when regular season games are on the nfl network in Canada they will be blacked out to protect TSN.

"Regular-season NFL broadcasts will be blacked out in Canada to protect TSN, which has purchased exclusive Canadian rights to the Thursday-Saturday package." (wikipedia)

But beyond that issue tho all I was wondering is why is Cogeco the only major cable company not to carry this channel. Every other major company has struck a deal with the NFL but not Cogeco.

I thought maybe this upcoming season Cogeco would add it to there lineup, but yet another year goes by and No NFL Network ... Wow this issue might just go on forever and ever, kinda like the Vick/Dog Fighting fiasco, lol.

Anyways just wondering if anyone has heard any info. if or when Cogeco might be considering adding this channel to the lineup.

Peace Musashii

Trying to get an answer out of a Cogeco rep is nearly impossible, since they will either say they have no idea about it, or that they will look into it to better improve the channel selection (e-mail letter from them).

I now that TSN do blackout NFL-N games, but I still would love to have the channel for pre and post game coverage, and for other programming on the channel as well.

Im not so concerned about NFL games, since I have the Super Sports Pack, but Rogers / Cogeco have identical channels when it comes to Sports, except for this one issue that Cogeco can't hammer out a contract with the NFL.

I would really love to see Cogeco get this channel and maybe add it on to the Sports theme package or the More Sports one, and if they ever plan on getting it, I would be a really satisfied customer, and my problems with Cogeco would be over. I think Cogeco has a fantastic selection of channels for digital cable, and in my mind they are one of the best out there, of course tho with Rogers being #1. If only Cogeco can solve his one issue, everything would be great.

do you work for Cogeco Cable? If you do how could you not have heard of NFL Network? Every other cable/satellite provider carries it in the lineup except for Cogeco. That is why I really hate calling Cogeco, because they have no clue what the answer is when you ask your question ... there Clueless.

Just too let you now as well, My friends keep calling Cogeco and asking when will you guys provide it, and they said they get calls everyday asking for the NFL Network, yet they can't do anything about it right now.

I believe it is an issue between the NFL and Cogeco contract wise, as to why this channel has yet to reach Cogeco.

Message I e-mailed to Cogeco yesterday regarding the NFL Network:

Hi Cogeco,

My name is * and I live in Burlington, Ontario and I was just wondering if Cogeco has any plans on adding The NFL Network to its digital tv lineup in the futre, and if so when?

With a lot of games being on the nfl network and` also that all other cable/satellite carries do carry the NFL Network like:

Bell Express Vu
Rogers
Star Choice
Shaw, etc...

I really love the service so far the Cogeco is providing me with and am glad to see the additions of new HD channels, etc... so I really do hope that Cogeco has plans to add the NFL Network to its digital tv lineup.

Thank You for taking the time to read this e-mail and I hope I hear a reply back from you guys.

Cya Adam

Message from Cogeco regarding the NFL Network:

Thank you for taking this time to contact us via email at Cogeco Cable.

Since the launch of our Digital service in many areas, we now have a larger channel capacity and are continually reviewing our channel line-ups. With every channel offered, we must take into consideration how this may affect the price of the package the channel is included in, technical aspects of offering the channel, and customer interest in the product.

We have forwarded your request to our Marketing department for review when the company is considering future options. We appreciate your feedback, as this will help us determine which channels we will offer in the future to our valued customers.

If you have any additional inquires please forward them through the Contact Us section on http://www.cogeco.ca or by calling 1-800-267-9000. Our Sales and Service Representatives are available to assist you 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for your convenience.

Thank you for choosing Cogeco,

What a load of Bull**** ... See what I mean how Cogeco is absolutly clueless when it comes to answering a simple question.

Interesting that COGECO says "customer interest in a channel" is of paramount importance, and if that is the case I find it strange there was a lot of "interest" in the Fishing channel to cause COGECO to offer it. If it is a contract issue between COGECO and the NFL, why don't they come right out and say so? I find "customer interest" a rather lame criteria for offering a channel considering the number of channels they do offer that have rather dubious merit, (the Pet Network, Bite TV!) but, then, that's only my opinion.

This is Bullcrap. I've been asking for this channel for 2 years.
My area STILL isnt upgraded, Im barley getting any HD channels, I have no sports pack in HD, and I dont think we will EVER get the NFL network.

Im THIS close to cancelling..................

please dont tell me that "the nfl network games are on tsn" I know that. Thats not why I want the NFL network.

I asked the same question April17th and this was the response from Cogeco:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us via email here at Cogeco Cable.

With regards to your request for the NFL Network, we would be happy to explain the status of this channel with Cogeco. Cogeco has been diligently attempting to add the NFL Network to our channel line-up for a few years now, with limited success. There was a time period in 2005 where we had a scheduled launch date for this channel, however it was pulled the day before it was to begin. Cogeco is continuing it's talks with the NFL Network in an attempt to add this channel, however we are having difficulty. The NFL Network wants Cogeco to add their station as a Digital Basic channel, which means it would be available to anyone with a Digital Box as part of their package. Due to the extremely high cost of this option, Cogeco has had to hold back with the launch of this service. (Or be forced to increase rates for Digital service across the board) Cogeco is fighting to have this channel put in as optional service. ($2.49 just like the rest of our stations) We have put forth your request to our marketing team, as we do with every request to show interest and you will be notified as soon as this channel becomes available.

If any further information becomes available, we will contact you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact us again via email, or directly at 1-800-267-9000. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for your convenience. Thank you for your interest in these new products.

Sincerely,

Cogeco Customer Care

I'm sorry Musashii; I just joined on with Cogeco.
Knowing about channels is not part of my job. I'm sorry we haven't been able to provide you with that channel as of yet, but as previous posts have shown, we are still trying to do so for you.
As for being clueless, I'm also sorry you think that. Give me problems with your CATV, Internet or Digital Phone service, and I can help you (if you ask nicely). Channel interest IS left to our Marketing department; so rest assured, the people that do need to know about the channel know about it and are working to provide it to you.

Sorry about going all crazy on you ItalCanadese, its just this is the one issue that is really getting on my nerve. Like if Rogers can hammer out a contract then why can't Cogeco do a contract ... It should be easy as 1,2,3. I am really hoping they can have a contract in place by the time the NFL season opens up this year.

We could end up going to court on this issue, and we could be in for the long haul, kinda like the Vick/Dogfighting case, lol.

Musashii, don't get your hopes up for NFL Network

Hey,

I was travelling in the states and staying in a fancy schmancy hotel for a few weekends of NFL football last season, and to blunt, the pre and post game coverage was "different", but hardly better. There is a reason why those announcers are not on "A" team.

When you watch the network on non game days, they have to go far down the NFL properties list to find content, and even I as a dedicated fan, might think that "Day 2 coverage of the 2002 Combine, wind sprint contest" hard to justify ANY $$$ or time for...

Sorry, but we're not really missing much yet IMO, but it might be better then my 2nd CLT, MTV, 2 shopping channels, TLN or Treehouse.

IMO

If Cogeco offers it the next big complaint will be the price. I am sure they are looking into it like the other guy said. There could be a million factors as to why its not released but do not think for one minute that they Haven't considered offering it, and those people you call and complain to cannot provide you with any information if they do not have any to offer...Also if someone knows anything about the NFL network within Cogeco but cannot say anything it could mean the difference of a job or not.
Just remember, Cogeco does employ people just like you that would like this service as well....your not alone!

Yeah, the fact that the NFL Network is not on Cogeco is very strange! What makes it even more strange was a year or two ago, I was flipping through the guide and one of the digital channels appeared as the NFL Network. When I saw it I was ecstatic and quickly pressed the button to view it but was confronted with a blank screen. I then called Cogeco to inquire and was told that they were in the process of securing the channel. After that incident I assumed that the channel would be available in just a short period of time...I am still waiting and it has been atleast a year!!!!

BUT my main concern is that Cogeco does the right thing and gets Setanta in September like they are supposed to!!!

I've been called cogeco for about 2 years requesting this channel. Everytime I call them about something else, I request that they get this channel. No one knows what's going on when I call. It's like nothing is ever followed up on.

Instead they provide us with useless digital options like MenTV, Fishing, or CGTV. Useless.

Personally I hate dealing with Bell but it might be time to switch over.

ESPN2,

yeah im wishing cogeco would add the nfl network sometime really soon before the start of the season. I also wish they would hurry up and add the new Setenta Sports channel ... BELL, Rogers, Shaw, etc has it already except for Cogeco.

But im not switching over to BELL, and for one reason only ... I am a huge sports fanatic and Cogeco and Rogers are the only providers who have the Super Sports Pack, which I absolutly love ... 7 leagues for 26.95 per month, can't beat it.

So my only option is too just be patient with Cogeco, and maybe just maybe one day they will add those channels. Since i live in Burlington, I don't have access to Rogers, so Cogeco is my only provider.

One of my biggest frustrations with COGECO is the fact that when you make inquiries, either via telephone or internet, there appears to be a disconnect between the CSR and the "brains of the operation". If customers could have direct access to the "marketing department" that is so frequently referenced, perhaps, we as customers would feel that are requests are actually being heard and that informative responses to our inquiries would be provided. I put this challenge out...work towards obtaining contact information directly to the marketing department and post it for others to use.
