Where, specifically, to buy SVHS blank tapes, or DVHS in CANADA?(online OR in person)

Hi Just got HD recording via firewire with a DVHS deck working, now I need to find a cheap source for SVHS tapes or even DVHS if they are cheap enough. Anyone find a good source in Canada ? Thanks.

Check out the Deals forum as some folks were using a discount to get deals off of DVHS movies online. (I think DVDBOXOFFICE) Try searching on DVHS

I called the tape warehouse, and was told they do NOT ship to Canada, but when I asked why, and whether that was absolute, I was given a persons number to ask again, so maybe they do, but the initial response was NOT good.
We'll see...
It's looking like finding a supplier of SVHS and/or DVHS in CANADA who sells for a reasonable price is going to be the usual challenge...

I am aware of ecost, they are at least willing to ship to Canada, which is great, but too often the cost of doing that is prohibitively high. On 10 SVHS tapes, they wanted $38. handling charge on top of the $18.56 shipping charge which is about 50% higher already than the actual cost of shipping.
There is a supplier in Vancouver that will ship from his office in CA for only the cost of the postage. The guy I talked to about this was really good, but I think I'll wait till I can buy 40 or so tapes at once to really cut the cost of shipping/tape.
Thanks for the leads though. There must be a pro tape supplier located in Canada with competetive prices, its just a matter of finding them...

If you're interested in that many, then you might consider going into an independent A/V shop that sells Panasonic and talking to the owner about pricing on the Panasonic tapes. There is a huge price break from Panasonic when you order 50. I really can't give you the dealer cost price, but I can give you a number to ask for. I'd think the dealer is better off making some money then none at all.

JohnnyG : Thanks for putting me onto the tape warehouse. Good people there, they agreed to ship to me, even though their website says they don't ship "internationally" ordered up about $100. worth of SVHS and DVHS blanks to give them a try. Good variety there too. Thanks again...

gn2 could you please post your per tape landed cost when you get them. I'd like to give them a shot but I'm always afraid of brokerage fees, duties etc.
BTW I've been buying fuji svhs 120s and maxwell svhs 160s at london drugs here in BC. About the only local source I could find. 120s $10, 160s $13. Both seem to be great in the jvc 40000.

Paul: You're doing really well on those tape prices. You should talk to the manager, see if he'll cut you an even better deal on a dozen or so at a time.
I'll let you know when I receive my tapes how much they end up costing me...

Captain Video on the internet rents titles, I think. Thats the only one I know about, and they're in Maryland, I think, so it would be prohibitively expensive with shipping, CUSTOMS and taxes....

There are a couple of places in the US. nicheflix.com is one.

The name says it all. DTheater is WAY to niche to be a rental in Canada. Heck, a lot of titles are damn difficult to get, period.

I had to get a US-based buddy to purchase my copy of I Robot. It wasn't even announced, it simply appeared. It may represent the final release on the format.

And for all you out there wondering about this wierd sub-culture, take a look at this: The Bourne Identity

Some think less than 10 copies were actually released to the public.

So, you see, people are willing to spend. But, the makers are unwilling to make. You shake your head and wonder what the heck is going on. One theory is the studios just got too spooked by the analogue hole that DTheater represents and kept a lid on the format.
