You are right 57, I should have upgraded the SA2000. I started to read items here on the benefits of the upgrade after I bought it.

I thought the SA8000 would be a nice upgrade in the (near) future and the SA2000 would go on another t.v. but thanks to this web site I see that in Ontario that may be a little longer than anticipated.

Toshiba 57HDX82
Harmon Kardon AVR 7000
Anthem MCA 20 Amp (power for fronts)
Paradigm Reference Studio 40's
Paradigm Reference Studio CC
Paradigm Reference Studio 20's
Paradigm PW2200 Subwoofer
Toshiba SD1200 DVD
Toshiba VCR
Sony CDP-CX53 CD Changer
Starchoice Satellite

Future Upgrades I'm Considering:
DVD: Sony DVP NS999ES, Pioneer Elite DV-47AI, Marantz DV8300, Yamaha DVD S2300
Preamp/Processor: Anthem AVM 20, Rotel RSP 1066
Amp: Anthem MCA 50, Rotel RMB-1095
Speakers: Paradigm Reference Studio 100's

The DVD player will probably be the first upgrade. It will either be a DVD/sacd player or a universal player. After that probably the speakers. A new preamp and amp are last on the list and by that time there will probably be newer and better models to choose from.

I guess it's about time for me to list my "humble home theatre"

TVs:
GE (stereo), one from the late 80s (not stereo) on a cart with wheels, and a 13" in the kitchen (stereo but I'm not sure) beside the sink.

VCRs:
AIWA multisystem (not stereo  )
Goldstar (not stereo)
JVC (broken)

DVD:
Panasonic DVD player (RV-30 or something like that)

Satellite:
Bell ExpressVu (3 IRDs) on steroids with nowhere to go
Super 7 theme package with BPM:tv (Networks, Sports, News, Lifetyle, Destination, More Movies, En famille)

not part of this humble home theatre:
portable Sharp MT190 Minidisc recorder (except when recording the interval music on BBC World)
Sony discman
Sony CD/MP3 discman
AIWA stereo (from the 80s)
kitchen clock radio

OK, here is my somewhat mixed up system.

Monitor: Toshiba 50hx81
Receiver: Kenwood VR-410
DVD player: Denon 2800
L+R speakers: PSB Stratus Gold
Centre speaker: PSB 100C (alpha)
Rear speakers: PSB Alpha-S
Sub: Janis 18 in. (rather old!!)
Rogers cable with SA 3100HD

That subwoofer is probably older than some of you guys! But it can really pump out the bass! (OK, probably not as tight as a newer one, but it makes me happy!)

I have a question: One thing I might lke to add is a single remote. However, the Kenwood receiver has a RF remote rather than IR. Are there any universal remotes that output RF to control a device? I should probably replace the receiver -- the remote is really flakey, quite a lot of the time it does not respond. Besides, it would be nice to be able to handle the 6.1 DTS on the Lord of the Rings DVD!

I sit about 11-12 ft from the TV and if I had to do it all over again, I would get a 57 in. since I only use this system for HDTV and DVD.

Me don't have a complete home theatre system yet...in the research stages...interesting though...in reviewing this thread i have noticed that for RPTV the most popular choice seems to be a Toshiba...with Hitachi coming in second...for Direct view...Sony seems to be the popular choice...hmmm...and i was leaning towards Sony if i were to go the RPTV route...hmmm...maybe i should give Toshiba a second look...any input on why so many of you decided on Toshiba? thanks

I guess it's a question of taste. For me the Toshiba HDX sets and the Pioneer Elite looked the most realistic, like you expected the things on the set to come right out of the screen. In the end it ultimately came down to cost. I just couldn't justify paying the high price of a Pioneer Elite. You can get a 57HDX82 for under $4000 now so I guess it's also getting into the budget of many people who until now have been sitting on the fence. Now if only we could reach that critical mass to stimulate largescale migration of broadcasters to HDTV

Here's and update of my systems:

For my TV viewing, I'll be using these components:

TV: Toshiba TW40X81 (Calibrated by JohnnyG)
Receiver: Kenwood VR-2080 (DD-DTS)
Front speakers: PSB Centuries
Center speaker: PSB Alpha Center
Rear speakers: PSB Alpha Mites
Subwoofer: PSB Subzero (8")

New home theater:

TV: Sony VPL-HS10 LCD front projector
Receiver: NAD Electronics T762
Front Speakers: PSB Stratus Silver
Center Speaker: PSB Stratus C6
Rear speakers: PSB Image 10S bipoles

DVD recorder: Panasonic DMR-E30
LD player: Pioneer CLD-D504
VCR: JVC hi-fi (Not used much anymore)
CD: Kenwood 200 disc
Game system: Sony Playstation 2

For the time being I'll be switching my BEV 6000 receiver from room to room as needed until I can get a second HDTV receiver, hopefully a PVR.

My home theater room is not built yet, but it should be in the next month or so. Woohoo. :D

Let's see...

Onkyo 484 Receiver
Sampo 611 DVD
Toshiba 42" 16:9 HDTV
(2) PSB Alpha A/V's for the Front
(1) PSB Alpha Center for the Center
(2) PSB Alpha B's for the Rear
Sony Playstation 2

I guess that's about it.
