The Google Chrome web browser continues to gain market share at the expense of Internet Explorer and Firefox according to recent figures published by NetMarketshare.
Total worldwide usage in February 2011 for Chrome was 10.93%, up 0.23% from January and almost double the 5.61% recorded in the same month of 2010.
Internet Explorer remained the browser of choice worldwide with a 56.77% share, down significantly from 61.58% in February 2010. Firefox was the second most popular browser in February with a 21.74% share, down from 24.23% in the same month a year earlier.
According to NetMarketShare , Chrome has gained market share in each of the last twenty eight months and is now the world's third most popular web browsing software.
In February 2011, Safari was the fourth most popular browser with a 6.36% market share followed by Opera in fifth spot at 2.15%. The top five browsers now account for 97.95% of all browser usage.
