Last week at an industry awards ceremony, Toronto's Virgin Radio 999 was announced as the Canadian Radio station of year.

Since its inception about 18 months ago, the station which is owned by Astral Media and under license with Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Radio International has become Canada's most listened-to Contemporary Hit Radio station in the 2+ segment.

Virgin Radio 999 went on air on August 25th of 2008 and was the first Virgin Radio station in Canada. Since then Astral Media, in conjunction with Virgin Radio international, has launched similar stations in Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montreal.

"The entire Virgin Radio team is absolutely thrilled. After a lot of hard work, it is terrific to be recognized like this!" said Rob Farina, and Executive Vice-President at Astral.
