Viewsonic, best known for their computer displays, announced today its new VMP70 direct-connect, HD media player.

To use the device, users simply connect an external hard drive with their favourite music, photo and video files to the VMP70 which then connects to your HDTV via component or included HDMI cable.



The VMP70 also features a S/PDIF port so you can enabling the player to output digital sound to your home theatre system. A remote control is included for making adjustments to aspect ratio, audio and format settings.

Viewsonic says the VMP70 supports video and audio formats such as MPEG1/2/4, Divx/Xvid, MKV, H.264, VC-1, WMV9, RM/RMVB, DTS, Dolby Digital, WMA, MP3, FLAC, OGG and MKA. VMP70's connectivity options include HDMI, Component, composite, S/PDIF and duo USB drive slots for optional increased storage space.
