Videotron, Quebec's largest cable company, recently announced it had logged its seventh consecutive year of subscriber growth in 2010 with gains in every area of its business including cable, digital phone, internet services and wireless.
By the end of 2010, Videotron had 1,811,600 subscribers to its cable television service, up marginally from 1,777,000 a year earlier. While the gains in basic cable were modest, the number of more profitable digital cable customers rose 12.5% from 1,084,100 at the end of 2009 to 1,219,600 by the end of 2010.
The most noteworthy event of the year for Videotron was the launch of its own 3G wireless phone services in September 2010. Prior to the launch, Videotron was simply reselling Rogers Wireless service. In the three and a half months that it offered its own service in Quebec, Videotron added logged 92,600 subscriber additions to its new mobile network consisting of 55,800 new connections and 36,800 migrations.
The company also saw healthy gains in the number of Internet and Digital Phone customers in 2010.
On December 31, 2010, Videotron had 1,254,400 internet customers, up 7.1% from 1,170,600 a year earlier. The number of cable telephone customers was 1,114,300, up 9.9% from 1,014,000 a year earlier.
