Yesterday, Videotron announced that some of its customers now have a new way to pay for items.

Those customers who have a Desjardins Visa card can now use their mobile phones to make mobile payments at any store equipped with a contactless payment terminal.

Using NFC technology, customers will be able to pay for purchase of up to $100 by holding their phone close to the merchant's terminal.

"We are pleased to add this new option to our mobile payment solutions, which are making life easier for a growing proportion of our customers," said Manon Brouillette, President and CEO of Videotron.

The company reports that customers who want to make mobile payments can go to the Videotron Customer Centre to check whether the function is supported by their device and SIM card.

Users can then download the Desjardins Mobile Payment app and follow the installation instructions.

If a customer finds that their phone supports NFC but their SIM card does not, compatible SIM cards are now available for free at any Videotron location.

This new solution for Desjardins customers complements the existing selection of mobile payment options supported by Videotron. Holders of credit or debit cards issued by other Canadian financial institutions can currently make mobile payments using Apple Pay or Android apps made available.
