I believe a transcoder is required, not just an adaptor, unless the display (or netbook) has a built in transcoder, like some Front Projectors.
You may wish to try being a bit less stingy with the words so that we know what it is you're trying to do. Makes/models of equipment would be a good start. Communication is the key to getting good information.

It sounds like someone doens't know what they're talking about. It's either and "RCA" conector, as is commonly used for audio & video signals or "F" as is used for RF signals. The pictures shows RCA and S-video connectors. As mentioned in the comments, that sort of thing doesn't work at most scan rates and resolutions. You'll have to set the computer to output the scan and resolution accepted by the TV, which is 60 Hz, 525 line (~480 visible), interlaced. This means you'll be working with a very low resolution display that is not usable for most common computer apps.

Not if all it does is combine the RGB & sync signals to make composite.
Going camping, have a bunch of movies on the netbook. Idea is if it rains, I'll dump then on the TV so we're not all gathered around a 10" screen. Done this before with a old laptop that had a composite out jack, works great, resolution isn't a big deal.
Some reviews where they do work if your video card has TV-Out (see here), which my Asus netbook is spec'd to have.
Either way, until I get the adapter in the mail (ordered this from ebay), I'll just take my flat screen computer monitor (just go all VGA) and leave the TV behind.

If the video card is designed to accept an adapter cable, it should automatically detect the cable and provide NTSC composite output for the TV. JamesK is correct. The cable description should read "VGA to S-VIDEO and RCA Composite Video Cable." Another solution would be to use a TV with VGA in or use DVI or HDMI if both computer and TV support them. (Something to consider for future purchases.)

Which netbook do you have which has composite/S-video out over VGA?
I have an Asus netbook (1008HA), and the only thing that comes out of the VGA port is VGA.
If the computer has VGA only, you need a TV/monitor/projector with VGA in, or a scan converter box.
Even if you could get a TV rate RGB, you would need to make a proper chroma carried and lumiance/sync signal. Passively summing the R/G/B signal will not have that.

Didn't work. It's not compatible with my 1080i Panny Plasma HDTV. I just want to watch what's on my laptop on my TV preferably with a VGA to Component converter but a VGA to HDMI would do. The only video output on my hp mini laptop is VGA. There is no VGA input on my tv. I've been looking at other converter models but don't want to again buy something, pay for the shipping, for something that isn't compatible. If anyone has any insight it would be much appreciated.
