I have bought one of these but I doubt very much that it will work with a hard drive - perhaps I will give it a try. The unit I have is not an official Apple unit but it does have both SD and USB ports and I have used a keyboard with it. One problem is that the official Apple iPad case somewhat obstructs this port and you don't seem to get a solid connection with the case on.

Other than pictures I don't know that it helps you do this today - unless someone has figured a way to do that with a Jailbroken iPad.
