It might, if the Enclosure is self powered. But what's the point? All the iPad will do is try and import all the photos it finds on the hard drive. You can't use it for any other purpose. You can't mount the drive or extract other file types. At best it will look like a really big SD card.

I have bought one of these but I doubt very much that it will work with a hard drive - perhaps I will give it a try. The unit I have is not an official Apple unit but it does have both SD and USB ports and I have used a keyboard with it. One problem is that the official Apple iPad case somewhat obstructs this port and you don't seem to get a solid connection with the case on.

The only reason this would have any interest for me and i suspect for most people would be to plug in a thumb drive for added storage.

It doesn't. I'm just saying that the USB device most people would want to plug into their iPad (in addition to those camera owners) is a thumb drive or USB drive.
