I have had the DCT 6416 for close to 3 years and paid something like $600-$800 for it at the time. The motorola DCX3400 is now available at $400.
Beyond the larger hard drive ( 500 vs 160), would I gain any other advantages in sound and picture quality that one would notice ?

And any chance to trade in and get something off the price ?

it also has mpeg4 which NFL ST and NHL CI uses.

If you subscribed to CI last year, you can swap your HDPVR for the new one for free if you subscribe to CI this season

Other relative advantages I can think of:

- generates a lot less heat, and you can apparently stack it with your other A/V equipment, rather than having it sit on its own (because of the massive vents required on the 6416).

- You're future-proofed for home networking, whenever Shaw gets around to activating it. The 6416 can't do it.

the coolness is astounding on the 3400s. I had a 3416 and and older 6416 and even well ventilated they were ALWAYS very warm. The 3400s aren't the slightest bit warm. Not sure how they accomplished that

Thanks for responses. I checked with Shaw. No trade in or upgrade. Would have to sell on my own.
Will wait and see if price drops in next while.
