TomTom today announced that the latest version of its iPhone and iPod touch navigation app (version 1.6) is now available from the iTunes app store.

The updated application includes the latest maps and TomTom's Map Share technology which enables TomTom users to make corrections to their own maps and to download free map corrections made by other TomTom users.

With Map Share, users are able to edit street names, set driving directions and block and unblock streets directly on their iPhone or iPod touch and then share their changes with the TomTom community. The TomTom App also checks for new TomTom verified map updates including turn restrictions, speed limit changes and crossing changes, automatically every week or on-demand as often as the users choose.

TomTom App for iPhone runs on OS 3.0 and iOS 4, however users will have to upgrade to iOS 4 to be able to use all of the application’s features.

The TomTom V 1.6 app for the U.S. and Canada is now available from the Apple app store for $50. TomTom Traffic which provides iPhone users with twelve months of real-time traffic updates is also available via in-App purchase for $20.
