After coming out swinging in its battle to take a 30% cut of online subscriptions, Apple has ceded some ground to Time, Inc.

Starting Monday, subscribers to Sports Illustrated, Time and Fortune magazines will be able to access the iPad editions via the apps, which will be able to authenticate them as subscribers. Time Inc.'s People magazine already had such an arrangement, but readers of most publications have had to pay separately for the iPad version regardless of their subscriber status.

I was under the impression you could already do this, as long as it was possible to subscribe in the app?

The fight over the personal info is the main sticking point as I understand it, since that's the main reason the publishers don't want people to buy subscriptions through apple.

I have edited the title of this thread to reflect the actual story.
