I hate to break it to you, Jeffer. But there are more than 2 members on DHC.

(hands jeffer a brush that isn't so wide for his painting.)

For the record, I don't usually watch the news channels. I tuned in today to see what all the fuss was about. It looks good.

There are more Canadian FoxNews fans that you people think. Now all of you FoxNews bashers can go back to voting for a liberal government that is pro-CRTC and corrupt.

-CyberJaak
The liberals are not the only corrupt party ;)

Also the CRTC is much more then just you support it or you do not support it.

The CRTC does a lot of different things, SOME of which many people including myself disagree with.

Harmful to Canadians?

What if the right wing Foxnews exposes us to things like the corruption and failings of our current government, or just presents us with non-Socialist, uber-Conserative views?

Could this cause irreparable harm to Canadians and their way of thinking? Shouldn't our government protect us against such things?

I for one don't think I can summon the courage to watch Foxnews, so I'll have to password protect it and lock it out.

Fox News Channel Guide Not There

This is not a CSR rant, although it certainly could be. It is a request for information.

I called BEV yesterday to ask when we would have a Guide for Fox News Channel (FNC). I was told within 24 to 48 hours.

I was suspicious of the answer as other channel guides have come up easily within 24 hours.

I called again today to ask and was told there would be no Guide at all until the free preview is over, after September 1st: ie. no Guide for four months.

I asked to speak with a supervisor to see which version of reality, if either, was correct. I was left on hold forever and gave up.

I called again and was given a third answer: the CSR's have no information about the Guide and never have this kind of information in advance of something actually occurring: in other words, the CSR said, when the Guide appears, on that day they'll be told there is a Guide.

The problem with no Guide is that we don't know what program we are watching on FNC. When you find out the program schedule from an internet generic guide and go to program an individual show, you get a three hour block for a one hour show. You then end up having to do a manual edit of the Guide show named Preview.

I know that at least one major cable company which had a free preview of FNC had a Guide up so you could see what program you were watching and so that you could record that program by name if you wanted to.

Does anyone have an inside source at BEV and if so could you please ask whether the Guide will be put up for FNC and if so when. If not, why not?

Thanks in advance for any help any of you can provide. This is yet another BEV frustrating circumstance. Customer service is not a term they seem to understand or embrance.

Finally! Now those still wondering where some American stereotypes come from - such as Canada being populated mainly by iglu-inhabiting moose-hunting terrorists, Europe being one poor hostile communist country, etc. etc., will know the answer. They will get the answers to other intruiging questions - like why US unemployed and families of victims of the US overseas wars vote for the party that brought them all that misery, why people deprived of their life savings to pay for medical treatment think of Canadian type health care system as the spawn of Satan, or victims of gun violence consider possible anti-gun legislation an assult on thier basic human rights. Fox News is one of the most perfected combination of right-wing brainwashing and American pop-culture style view on events. Wrapped into the most commercially successful format of any other news network.
The thing that immediately jumps to me (only a few seconds required to see the terrorist threat level ticker) every time I watch it is the aggressive fear-mongering. The low dirty last-resort weapon of polictical forces currently in power. Be with us, or else xxxx wll come and get you! (Depending on whteher you listen to Fox News or Paul Martin, replace the x-s with "terrorists", "atheists", "democrats", "progressive conservatives", etc. - :) )

BEV still doesn't carry MSNBC and Bloomberg Television. It would have made more sense for BEV to carry these two news channels at the same time Fox News was added to BEV's channel lineup.
Bloomberg is similar to CNBC. in fact, CNBC is better and for this reason i don't see the rush to add bloomberg. however, it would have been nice to FINALLY have MSNBC and fox news added together. i guess the strong demand for fox news is the reason why they added it first.

For those who think fox news is your typical ******* far right news channel obviously you know **** all. indeed, it's more conservative than CNN but at the same time they do have several hosts who are liberal and liberal guests make regular appearances. personally, i see fox news as more center rather than far right. it's definitely not the mouthpiece of the bush administration as it is being labeled by the left. you see, that's the problem with leftists. they just can't tolerate dissent, which is kinda laughable considering how they see themselves as the advocates of free speech. it's free speech until you start questioning their ridiculous rhetoric. let's not forget who founded the so-called alternative to fox news, CNN - a radical leftist called ted turner. of course, he'll never admit that his channel, flooded with leftist propaganda, is now utterly useless. it lost all the ratings to fox news, which begs the question: why do more people prefer watching fox news over CNN if it's so atrocious as the left claims?

Well done to BEV for finally adding it.

Faux Views is entertainment. Just don't take it as news.

Did you know that the 911 terriorists all came into the US from Canada? Yup, it's true - heard it on Fox News last week - not once, but twice.

What makes Fox News a joke is not their point of view, (everybody will have their own slant) is that when they or a guest misstate the facts; they never correct or retract their error. And that's why the channel is more accurately described as Faux Views.

That right as Bill O'Rielly says "Don't let the facts stand in your way of a good story"

Here's another Fox story you won't see on Expressvu

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7708476/
The link that's provided leads to a news article on the American Idol scandal reported by MSNBC. Bill O'Reilly already covered this story on the O'Reilly factor. His program didn't shy away from it or pretend it doesn't exist even though American Idol airs on Fox.

Fox News is now available on BEV but, not the news channel associated with the link that's provided. MSNBC is nowhere to be found.

I didn't watch the segment but, apparently Newt Gingrich said those comments on Fox News. He is not an employee of Fox News. I read that the Canadian Ambassador to the United States contacted Newt Gingrich about the comments claiming they were false and asked if he could retract the statement. Newt Gingrich agreed and apologized for the error.

Newt Gingrich sorry for comments about Canada

Maybe the 9/11 terrorists didn't cross from canada but other al-qaida terrorists, like ahmed ressam, the so-called millenium bomber, did. let's face it canada has very weak security and not just at the border with the states. the intelligence services and the military in this country are a joke, both are underfunded and have no clue on how to fight and prevent terrorism. airport security in this country is a joke. as such, we have become a safe haven for terrorists. we are weak in security and so are the americans. despite all the money and reforms they're throwing at it they're still very vulnerable to terrorism.

As for issuing corrections, you're not gonna find many networks who will issue apologies even if they're wrong. look at the whole dan rather fiasco when people discovered that rather and CBS used forged documents to attack bush. CBS has never apologized. dan rather issued a vague statement on his show basically shifting blame to someone else. i guess somebody should have told him that being misled is no excuse for shoddy journalism. CBS quietly fired 4 executives and never said publically "sorry, we were wrong!"

I guess it's good that we have more "News" selection now with Fox News... but I just tuned in for 20 minutes to the "Sunday Recap" which gives a flavour of all of their shows.

I guess I'm more liberal than I thought... I find the station not to my liking. To each their own, I don't have to watch it. I am glad that it's there for those folks who do want it though. Good to see that Bell is doing what they can for their customers .... with what seems like near -full capacity on the birds.
I also thought I would appreciate this station a little more but it is not what I expected. I am not a CNN fan - for that matter - not a news fan altogehter.

I think I won't be watching this station much. so many problems in the world I rather limit my news to local news - and even then, I don't keep up to date

nobody has anything to lose.
Before this thread gets completely hijacked, first off, that is a discussion for another thread. Secondly, there are people who would lose. TMN and MC pay for the rights to stuff on HBO. They would lose.

As mentioned, there are a few threads about this. Just do a search on "Disney."

We don't control security for people entering the US. If a terrorist entered the US from Canada, that is the fault of US border security, not Canada's.

I love my Expressvu. I'll be honest. The only 2 channels I want that (but neither offered in Canada) are HBO and VH1. My experience with Expressvu (over standard cable) is much better. For $5 or $7 more than my cable bill was, I get a whack of channels that I couldn't get without Digital Cable. If I were to get the same thing as I have on Starchoice or Rogers it would have been about $20-$30 more - and I would have more stations - more stations that I don't want to watch.

Most HBO stuff I need I can get on other channels in the bell lineup. For me, expressvu does everything very well, and it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg like it would with Rogers and StarChoice. My bill wasn't right at first, but two pleasant CSR's fixed it very quickly.

I am happy when they announce new channels, but to me, these channels are not as important as what I've already got. Fox news will be interesting I hear....

In regards to the capacity issues - my only hope is that we won't have to install another dish if programming gets put on a 3rd satellite system.
Perhaps you haven't heard, but Star Choice has a new Digital Favourites package for $43.99. The channel list is on their website, and packs a lot of punch. Check it out.
