CBS officially renewed the 17th edition of The Amazing Race on January 25, 2010. The season premieres on September 26, 2010 with a special 90-minute episode before returning to its regular hour-long format the following week.

This season will span 32,000 miles (51,000 km) over four continents including new destinations Ghana, Bangladesh and for the first time, teams will cross the Arctic Circle.

Filming began on May 26, 2010, with the starting line at the Eastern Point Yacht Club in Gloucester, Massachusetts, making this the first season since The Amazing Race All-Stars to start in a city other than Los Angeles.

According to CBS, the team finish first in premiere episode will get a surprise, game changing advantage.

Cast
Applications were due on February 4, 2010. Semi-finalist interviews were held sometime in March 2010 and the final casting interviews took place in Los Angeles around March 2010. From there, 11 teams were selected as contestants and filming took place around May to June 2010.

This cast includes a team of home shopping hosts, an Internet entertainer, Ivy League a cappella singers, and a birth mother & daughter who recently reunited following an adoption over 20 years earlier. This is the first season ever without a married couple.

Too bad the CBS website is restricted to the US.....bios of the players not yet available on CTV (at this moment) just stuff from the last series. If you are going to buy the rights then get off the bag and start showing them in Canada.

Will this show ever be filmed and shown in HD... That is the only reason that i don't watch it any more.... Call me an HD snob, but there is no reason for this or any other reality show to not be in HD.

If it is, which i really hope it is, i just may start watching again.

Our whole family is Looking forward to it. The Amazing race is the only show I will tolerate in SD.

Is my family the only family that does an Amazing Race draft? We each pick a couple of teams based on website profiles and to be fair pick in forward then reverse order (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1). You can easily get the "two young athletic males" team on your first pick and then end up with the "two yodelling grannies" on the second. We have 2 winners: one for picking the team that wins overall and one for picking the team that wins the most individual legs. We find it really adds to the fun of the series.

We don't do that but generally speaking one of dinner questions I ask every week is "so who's going to be out this week" and "who do you think is going to win"

It always leads to some fun and spirited discussions and there is some pride in knowing you picked the winner.

I always root for people who seem to enjoy the adventure without causing drama and from time to time this type of team actually does well.

The team you want to win may not be the obvious best team. Even the best team can be kicked out because of a single mistake or bad luck.

Yeah, I'm kinda like James.
I tend to cheer for the couple that isn't overly aggressive, doesn't say "andelay andelay" to the cab driver (no matter what country they're in), doesn't yell at ticket checkout clerks and generally display courtesy to the places they're in. That one black couple from several seasons ago is an excellent example.

I totally agree...I especially liked seeing the brother/sister combo win last year (I think) as they were very respectful of each country they visited.

They took their time to do custom things while in the various countries.

One other pet peeve of mine is people that rip the clue and leave the pieces on the ground...c'mon people...have a little class.

Each season I hope it's going to be in HD but for some reason the producers keep taping it in SD. What a waste of beautiful, exotic locations! I don't think many would believe them if they said that HD equipment was too bulky to haul from country to country as you now can get compact HD 1080p cameras for the home consumer market. Obviously, commercial grade HD cameras would be somewhat larger (and way more expensive.) I don't think as many people would be watching "Survivor" if it still was being shot in Standard Def.

Safe to say most of us probably hate one individual.
Who, Phil?

Seriously, I presume you mean Chad, since he's about the only player who showed any kind of "negative energy" during episode one. In fact, other than the beach volleyballers who were depicted as mildly catty toward certain of the other teams, it's a cast that seems notable for their overall "niceness", c.f. teams from the past (although I have no doubt that will change as the race progresses).
