Had optik installed a week or so ago, generally great, but today it started stuttering. It doesn't seem to be tied to HD only or anything as I would suspect if it was a BW related issue, and while this is going on a speed test still shows decent numbers etc.

Any ideas?

Hrm, not quite. Maybe stuttering is the wrong word. It gets some blocky patches and the video skips, the audio cuts out.
I have only noticed it a couple of times but now that I think about, I'm not certain if it was live TV or watching a recording. In my case it was the entire picture sort of vibrating in a verticle pattern for a few seconds and then it stopped. I'll have to pay more attention. No picture or sound loss here.

Good call on the packet loss. Depending on how bad (read minor) it is it may not be apparent in some flooding based speed test, but it could easily show up on some video feed.

Time to bust out pathview cloud.

Now we've gone from cutting out to no Internet connectivity at all. Anyone else in burnaby having trouble?

Oh yeah I've been on hold for two hours, after being hung up on after waiting an hour. Now I remember why I have avoided them for the past 6 or so years. Posting this from iPhone. Too bad since optik is great when it works.

Back in action this morning but I never did get through to support. Another 40m or so this morning as I got ready to head out for work... including dropping the kids at the pool (wink) and showering.

How does one actually get through to their support? That was a total of > 3 hrs on hold, got through to someone in India once before they disconnected me.

I had something similar happen in mid May. Wasn't watching live but recording, and I was out of town so I couldn't diagnose it. Lots of (HD) shows were heavily pixellated and skipped/stalled. Basically unwatchable (thankfully there are other sources). Not sure if I restarted the modem when I got home but it doesn't seem to have reoccurred since.

Mine went down for a while in Red Deer. Most channels were affected, both SD & HD. All was good again by 11 PM. That is the first time we lost service since we got this service back in February. I suspect it was the storm.

Mine went down last night at 11:45 in Calgary. I don't think it was a storm. I rebooted both the modem and STB. Internet was ok, but the STB would not initialize. Called Telus, was on hold for 1:15. I finally hung up. The STB came back about 1:30. I called in this morning to find out what went wrong and the Tech says he can't go back on closed out tickets. So he was not aware of the outage, but he did say one of their help desk offices was down last night. They need better training in the help centre's. I also found out if your IPTV connection is down your PVR can't play back recorded shows.

Here's another article on the lightning strike that affected Telus.

http://communities.canada.com/VANCO...d-after-lightning-takes-down-telus-email.aspx

Apparently the lightning strike affected the main central office in Edmonton that also contains the TV head-end and remote PVR servers.

This would also affect anyone who was trying to boot their PVR during the outage since like most PVRs, Mediaroom tries to contact the head-end during start-up.
