Yeah. Those of us who have had good experiences with Telus rarely post. I did see an announcement that phone and internet rates are going up, again, but then it's the new year and the loonie is kinda low.

Why does Telus billing system suck so bad it is really that archaic? My billing date was May 14th yet still nothing when checking account online.
On the contrary Shaw billing system is like clockwork if your billing date is the first of the month you can download PDF right away.

Telus FAILS Badly
I have been a loyal customer of Telus since 1984, in one capacity or another.
For over 4 weeks I cannot get either Internet or Telus Optik TV working properly.
As a technician who works from home; I earn my living this way as Telus knows, and I have been losing over $500 per day.
On Aug. 1/2016 I was asked to take a $2000 ‘hit’ for Telus as they just couldn’t get someone out for service earlier than Aug. 6/2016.
I was assured that due to Telus diagnostics assessing the same issues as was previously found; that not enough Bandwidth was coming into the house. I was told that this would be fixed so that I could be back to work Monday.
It is now Wed. Aug10/2016; with plenty of promises:
• Still no Internet or Optik TV service,
• No ‘Calls back’ as promised.
• Being put on HOLD for 4 hours; twice. Unacceptable as described by Telus repeatedly.
• No technician
• Losses of >$500 day with compensation offered; but really, what are you offering that will actually compensate me?
Spending time waiting daily for this to be repaired I have seen how many serious complaints that Telus is getting; and just doesn’t seem to care.
Talking the Talk, but NOT Walking the Walk.
SHAW has offered their Internet 150 for $49.95 a month, why wouldn’t I change? But Telus does NOT Care.
Again no changes this morning; not service, no contact and no services but more losses.
I will be sending this via media to the local Newspaper, FB and other media, such as this.

I switched from Shaw to Telus in April 2018. Was mostly happy with Shaw. The one irritation was the lack of HD channels.
I was with Shaw for about 15 months. In that time i do not recall ever having connection issues or having to restart the router / set top box.
Since April i have had to do this 3 times. The latest was today. I saw a notice on my Nest Cam app that a camera went off line at 0300. When i started the computer at 0600 there was no internet connection I power cycled the Telus router (model is the 3200) and when Optik TV screen came back there was a message that a network configuration had changed and to restart the box. I did so and Optik TV came back.
not sure if Telus did a network update. I searched but did not find anything about it.
other issues i have had occasionally is sound pauses / cut outs. At this point not too sure i will stay with Telus once my term runs out, if i even wait until it runs out.

I don't know which box you have, but some of them will cause sound dropouts and the cure is to use the back button on the remote, that will take you ten seconds back and then it seems to cure the problem, I find that when I fast forward or rewind, every now and then I get sound drop outs-I then either hit the forward (30 seconds) button, or the back button (10 seconds) and the problem goes away until next time, the cure is the same each time though.
Been having a brutal time with Telus since switching to Optik 4K a year ago last spring. We live in a reasonably well to do central Calgary neighbourhood, where, one would think, Telus would want to keep customers happy. We have had Telus internet since moving in in 1998. Always upgraded speeds when available, but the speeds here have always lagged elsewhere in the city, like we are last to get the infrastructure.
With the Optik 4K TV, I had to also get the 50 MB/s internet. At 78/month. If 150 was available, it would be 83/mo. My 25 mb/s at the cabin is 76/ month. Like, highway frigging robbery. I just got my maximum speed in Calgary boosted to 75 mb/s as that is the fastest available. At a $2 premium to what I was paying. No 150 yet.
On Friday I got an email saying Fibre was coming to my neighbourhood, call for your special offer. No one at Telus knew anything about it.
Unreal. And my Optik TV box loses connection to the PVR all the time. Had repairmen there 3 times so far and no satisfaction yet.

dufferdan, Have you had Telus techs come out and do some diagnostics? I had that bonded pair (50 meg) service for 3 years and it was perfect all that time . It consistently ran at 60 up and 11 down. I'm on 150 meg fibre now and a firmware upgrade screwed it up but a quick reboot of the system fixed it.
Called Telus to sign up for 4K TV for NHL playoffs. Telus is installing Fibre in Okotoks but I currently only have Internet 75. The agent tried to sign me up for a 2 year plan for TV and Internet. I explained that I had Shaw 600 and since Telus only has 75 now at my address, I only wanted Optic TV month to month for now. The agent said that would be $177 per month plus $150 installation. She then became impatient and said do you want it or not? I am currently with Shaw 600 and Bluesky with four themes. I pay $122 with Shaw for both TV And Internet combined. She offered Optic TV alone for $177 and wanted $150 for installation. At Shaw I never pay installation and their agents are polite. I declined.
After reading that the Telus TV is only 720p while Shaw is 1080i and that Telus picture quality is thus inferior, I am glad I declined. From the attitude and pressure from the Telus agent that basically said sign up for both internet Or go away we do not negotiate prices.
Thus I will never again consider Telus for any services again. Shaw has earned my business for good. I will not speak to the Rude Telus Agent again.

...2 years ago (well will be 2 years in April 2020) i switched to Telus for the main reason of being frustrated with the still SD channels on Shaw.
With the current Telus email fiasco (down for going to on 2 days now) I will be heading to a Shaw mall outlet tomorrow and see about returning to Shaw.
I will have to eat some cancel fees from Telus but so be it.

I wouldn't switch providers over email. Email accounts are easy to get. I haven't used internet provider email for many years due to difficulties over cancelled email accounts when switching providers. (Not to mention the series of Rogers email fiascos.) If a Canadian email account is required due to privacy concerns, try nili.ca.
