I am pondering changing to Telus Optik from Bell. Have a few questions;

1. Will my son's PS3 still work with this new set up. He is hard wired in presently not running it wirelessly as it was lagging too much. Just wondering if it would work still. Any advice or experiences?

2. With 4 TV's 1 PS3 and 2 hard wired computers and one land phone on the Optik line is that too much? am I going to run into problems with speed?

3. Installation question. One area has no TV presently and no phone line. Do they really only need to run a phone jack into that room for this to all work?

Any advice and or experiences appreciated. I know I will be saving money buy bunddling it but I don't want to have problems to save a few pennies. bell is ok just nothing great. Now the remotes are acting up so change is upon us anyways.

Thanks for the answers.

I can answer most of these for you. I'll list the answers by question number.

1) If there is a CAT5 line running from where the modem goes there should be no problem. If there is a phone line as well as a coax jack in the room where the PS3 is then that could also be a solution.

2) This is a hard question to answer. It would be better if I knew what service you qualified for. If you qualify for only a 15 meg profile or 1HD/2SD with 10 meg internet, my thoughts would be that you may find the service lacking. If you qualify for the Optik Turbo, then I would say you would have no issues. If you PM me your phone number I can tell you what you qualify for and be better able to answer this.

3) No, a phone line is not required. An coax cable outlet or a CAT5 ethernet line will be rquired to feed the signal from the router to the STB. This can be installed free of charge by the TELUS tech on install day.

Hope this answers your questions, feel free to PM me if you have further questions or if I can be of assistance.

PS3 will work, if it is currently wired with ethernet then it shouldn't be any trouble to keep it wired on ethernet when Optik is installed.

No, that's not too much to run on Optik but if check on the Telus website it will tell you what profile you qualify for. Most only allow for three TV streams at a time but there's generally 10+ mbps left for internet after that. Gaming doesn't really use a lot of bandwidth.

The installer will have to figure out how to run cable (ethernet or coax) from the modem to the TV that doesn't currently have any cable to it. You only need one phone jack (for the modem), everything else just connects to the modem (again, either ethernet or coax).
