I was told by a forum member here a few days ago that Telus will provide Optik High Speed Turbo as a standalone service even though it's not offered on their website.

Tonight I called to arrange this service and they're telling me it can't be done.

The person I talked to on the phone was honestly rather clueless anyway but I'm wondering how I can go about getting this service. I really don't want to switch TV yet as Shaw is practically giving away my current TV service (for another 6-7 months it's less than $30 a month for every channel they offer).

I need to find a replacement for Shaw internet as I'm on their Extreme (25 Mbps) service and the last few weeks it has been very unreliable... after several service calls I've given up on having this repaired and I need to find a replacement!

Thanks for any help someone here might be able to provide.

The details page doesn't match the main internet page: http://www.telus.com/content/internet/
The main page says High Speed Turbo is 10-15 Mbps and Optik High Speed Turbo is 5-25 Mbps. It also states clearly that Optik High Speed Turbo is only available with Optik TV.

[edit - more info]
Down near the bottom of the main page is a link to compare all plans. That link shows the High Speed Turbo 25 plan so the OP is definitely able to get the 25 Mbps plan without Optik TV. Maybe just a misunderstanding on the part of the CSR about what exactly koala was looking for.

@koala, Shaw Extreme is only 15 Mbps. A Speed test can be misleading due to Shaw's "Powerboost" which give you a higher speed for 5 - 10 seconds before capping the speed at 15.

The comparable product from Telus is "High Speed Turbo". You can ask for "High Speed Turbo 25", but it's not available in all locations since Telus is still upgrading their lines to VDSL2.

Dr. Dave, I realize they say it's 15 Mbps on their website but they actually "upgraded" ours to 25 Mbps a while back. I was getting (before this current rash of reliability issues) a consistent 1.5 to 3.0 MB / sec on usenet (12 Mbps to 24 Mbps)

Either way I'll try again with Telus today. I'm thinking I just got a really bad rep on the phone.
