Hi,

Telus optik to be installed near the end of this month and i just want to see if i have to make any alterations to my media cabinet. Can someone provide me the depth, height and length of the new cisco boxes, both the pvr box and the boxes it feeds.

I don't have the exact measurements, but the receiver boxes are quite small. I'd say it's even smaller than my PS3 slim.

The Cisco PVRs are smaller than the Shaw 6416. The Cisco STBs are smaller than the PVRs.

They are tiny, the PVR measured around 2.5" x 11.5" x 8" (HxWXD), the HD stb is 1 7/8" x 10" x 7 3/4" not including the depth of the wires/cables.

Peering into the future.

Does anyone have a crystal ball that might let them know if there are new STB's coming for Telus users?

Well for what it's worth, when I signed up I asked both the CSR and the technician (during install) about this and they said they wouldn't be changing the hardware anytime in the near future (at least 3 years but probably longer, from the CSR).

Just wondering what competing hardware is there to Cisco/SA, other than of course PCs (if/when Telus enables WMC computers to function as PVR/STBs)?

The current hardware is very good. Coming from the armpit of cable services called Rogers Cable (and their SA8300 thing), a light year doesn't describe how far ahead Telus is. Factor is the web scheduling, iPhone/iPod app, Xbox support, upcoming Blackberry app, etc, the whole Optik TV thing keeps moving ahead despite already being ahead. So not changing a thing for 3 years works fine for me considering Rogers hasn't change a thing for much longer than that (and is still stuck in 1995 era of UI design).
