This week, TELUS announced they have teamed up with Microsoft and Avanade, an IT services company, to offer Skype for Business, powered by TELUS to businesses in Canada.

This enterprise-grade unified communications and collaboration (UCC) solution creates ways for employees to connect with colleagues and customers, to help Canadian businesses better support a mobile workforce, says Telus.

With the proliferation of wireless devices in the workplace and the growing trend of mobile working, IDC Canada predicts that mobile workers will represent 75.5 per cent of the Canadian workforce by 2018.

And with this comes the need for increased wireless communication and connectivity.

What’s on offer? Skype for Business comes with a suite of collaboration tools that includes voice and video calls, instant messaging, presence and online meetings allowing users to collaborate with external partners and customers as well as colleagues when away from the office.

The service brings together the Skype interface with an expanded Lync feature set, offering users integration with commonly used Microsoft Office applications.

Skype for Business is designed for organizations of all sizes.

At present, it has a focus on connecting organizations with more than 250 employees and is delivered as a fully managed private cloud solution from TELUS’ secure and reliable Canadian data centers.
