I have a Stiletto 100 portable unit that I also have a dock for in my Jeep. I had to buy a replacement dock for my Stiletto as the old one was installed in another vehicle that was sold. Since I had Future Shop professionally install the dock for use, with the FM transmitter, I have problems with other vehicles' FM broadcasts over riding mine. In my old vehicle I didn't have this problem. Is there any way I can improve the FM signal strength of the dock?

I realize that I could play with the setting and find a frequency less used by other motorists, but that doesn't fix the problem. It simply avoids the problem and inevitably I will run across vehicles that are set on that frequency and the problem will reoccur.

The only solution, as dumb as it seems, so far is to put my hand near the dock. If I do that the signal improves, seems crazy but it works.

I had the same problem when I upgraded from my old original receiver to me new sportster. A simple solution that I found was to just unscrew your car antenna. It stops all the other channels over riding your receiver.

The stiletto 100 dock has an antenna port on the bottom of it (far left). You can either buy an antenna booster, or make your own for a few$ by following instructions here: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=54955&highlight=antenna.

Also, make sure you're not broadcasting on 88.1, the default setting, as many others will be, too.

Originally I believe Future Shop had it set at 88.1, since Saskatoon (where I had it installed) has no radio at that frequency. However, when I brought it home to Lloydminster there's a station at that frequency, so I moved it to 107.9.

I had Googled around and found that the FCC forced Sirius to downgrade the power of their FM transmitters. Since the majority of what seems to override my signal is MP3 players, could this simply be a case of an American made product (Sirius with FCC regulations) and a Canadian made product (IPod dock with CRTC regulations) having different technical rules?

I would avoid the 2 extreme ends of the broadcast band, as they are the ones most people will default to. Give the antenna/booster a try. Mine broadcasts over 1,000 feet with the attachment. I'm in a rural area with few fm channels, so I use 88.1. Friends who have Sirius tell me their radios change to my channel as they drive past my house, which is a couple of hundred feet off of the road. I use my car dock in the house to broadcast throughout our small resort.

Does your new car radio not have an AUX in?

If NOT,

I had problems with my Stiletto and then hooked up the FM Direct kit and have had no problems since.

Ultimately, that's the answer, Hugh. FM direct is the best way if there's no aux in.
