I considered the HomeRun as well, but didn’t want to pay a monthly fee for a Guide. There is no charge for the Guide with Tablo. The only cost is the device itself. I read lots of complaints on Reddit and that’s why I waited so long before buying. Perhaps the software has had much improvement, because I haven’t had anything go wrong during the week I’ve had it.

Humbar... Have you tried using NextPVR? It's a free third-party app and, from what I've read, it should give the HDHomerun DVR functionality.
I used it several years ago with good results. I had a small Windows HTPC and an HDHomerun. I got my EPG from Schedules Direct which, at the time, was about $25 per year (I think it's $35 now) and they were excellent and the data was well integrated in NextPVR. They also responded quickly if there were network changes.
I can recommend it if you're not afraid of setting up hardware and software.

I had the same setup a few years ago. It worked well. The guide fees from Schedules Direct keep going up but that seems to be due to increasing fees from the data provider. Other companies, such as Plex, charge twice as much but they sometimes provide more. Plex has a bundle deal when Tidal is purchased through its site but that pushes the cost up further. It can be a good deal for some Tidal subscribers. Most DVR software is able to get guide data from the stations themselves but it's usually only 1-2 days, not the 7-14 days from guide services.

I was pleased to see 14 days on my Tablo, even from Canadian stations, when it isn’t officially available in Canada. On my LG TV with the antenna directly connected I didn’t seem to get even 24 hours, so I had low expectations for the Tablo.

The website didn't register my reply.

I apologies if we see my question twice.

I have a big question in my mind about the support.

I mean i have the legacy units and they have a good support.

However, since this unit should not be sold on this side of the border, would they still support us or respecting the warranty?

When I was setting up the device, I recall seeing that I had to select US or Canada. I chose Canada, so I figure they are not opposed to Canadians purchasing. We must be a small market, due to so few cities having a large number of over-the-air signals to choose from.

That doesn't answer your question, though. At leasst the device wasn't terrifically expensive and I haven't ever had electronics fail during the warranty period. I am very happy with my purchase. It has worked perfectly for a couple weeks now. Someone would have to break my legs to force me to return it.,

I have the Tablo Lite and it works well. Takes a bit of time to start the stream sometimes. I don't see the need to upgrade to this one as it doesn't have ATSC 3.0.

Antenna Man has a favorable review but the reviews are mixed elsewhere. Just take it in consideration that it's a sponsored video.

I am using HDHR Connect, with NextPVR on a Windows PC.
NextPVR is free, and is mostly good. It took some work to get it set up (I am not a tech wizard) but I followed instructions and it works.
Recently have had some weird problems - it tries to record some shows twice, and after every thunderstorm I have to re-scan the channels.
I don't know of any free schedules to use on NextPVR so I program it old-school (enter the day, time and channel to record). I am fine with that.

I have looked at the Tabloo, but I have some questions:
Does it have ATSC 3.0 or only 1.0?
I assume that the "DVR" Tabloo products have a built-in hard drive. What is the capacity? Can you add expansion hard drives?
Do all of the Tabloo products work with a Windows PC?
The Tabloo website is mostly marketing hype, without much good technical info.

What are other alternatives for a PC tuner?
HDHR, Tabloo, Hauppauge USB stick, MyGica USB stick, other random China-Inc devices.
And do I see a new USB tuner stick from Mediasonic/Homeworx?

:)

You should watch the video I posted... it answers all your questions.

1.0 only, probably small internal storage - he uses a separate drive for dvr.

Very few have made an error free 3.0 device other than Zapperbox and I think that's around $250-300 US. You'd need to be close to the US border to get any benefit out of it... and as far as I know, Detroit and Buffalo are broadcasting upconverted 720p/1080i ATSC 1.0 signals through shared lighthouse towers anyway.

Tablo does not have an ATSC 3.0 device yet. They're waiting until all the bugs in that system get ironed out regarding DRM Encryption. They do have built in storage but all in all its better to just attach your own storage device. Where I live I have a great OTA lineup, over 40 channels. All the major US and Canadian Networks 24/7 reliably and during the summer months I can also receive and extra set of channels from Rochester NY.

I get about 60-70 reliably in Windsor/Detroit area. Most being Detroit stations and ATSC 3.0.

I can get ATSC 3.0 with my Sony equipped TV, even with rabbit ears, meanwhile on 1.0 I will lose half the channels and they'll fall to 40%.

Doesn't look like anywhere in Canada will go to 3.0 as it's not even mentioned, meanwhile it's been live in Detroit about 2-3 years already.

Stations want to encrypt their signals so people won't do the re-streaming like that one app that got sued and shutdown in the US, so any maker will have to go through the red tape of acquiring the licensing or it's not usable if the station enacts the encryption.

Antenna Man's channel on YouTube is a good source if anyone is wanting more information.

Don't know if I want to upgrade from Tablo Lite to the new one... unless it goes on sale and is cheap. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense. I don't use the Tablo that much anyway, my whole home is wired with coax.

Unlike older models, the new 4th Generation Tablo does not support Windows computers. From the website: "There are currently no 4th Generation Tablo apps compatible with laptops or desktops."

If you search Reddit or the Tablo Community board, however, some owners have found a workaround by installing an Android emulator called BLUESTACKS onto their computers. I guess this essentially turns your desktop into a virtual Android device allowing you to run the Android Tablo app.

My Tablo Lite streams on Windows. Very easy to set it up that way as well. Then you can download the apps onto your other devices through the Tablo app.

I was watching the US Olympic Diving trials on NBC on my computer before I typed this.

Have you tried this
