So does anyone know what's happening with SunTv? Are they shutting down or are they going to keep running with there current channel lineup. I haven't heard anything lately just wondered if anyone knew?

CHCH could argue that SUN TV's news format, if broadcast OTA, would likely impact their all-day news viewership.

Either way, I doubt SUN TV will remain OTA.

I think there is a belief amongst many of us that if Quebecor wanted to duplicate the content of SunTV News onto CKXT-TV/DT that it would fall within the OTA stations CRTC mandate. Further, it would also allow for Quebecor to sell local advertiserments if they so chose. However, like you, I think there is a consensus amongst those who have been following this thread/developments that baring an unforseen bidder coming into play, CKXT's day's are numbered and Quebecor will forfit the license and in turn, sell off their digital transmitters to other stations.

Much speculation on SunTV. Apparently SunTV is going to become a all news channel, possibly BDU only, so OTA maybe gone, maybe not? There have been many discussions in various areas of this forum about the future of SunTV. I don't believe that Shaw will need 15.1 hamilton for their feed, so SunTV's 15.1 will likely be up for grabs at some point. Now I've added more speculations to the speculations

Sun TV News – Competitive mainstream national news service
The Commission approves an application by TVA Group Inc., on behalf of itself and Sun Media Corporation, partners in a general partnership to be constituted and to carry on business as Sun TV News General Partnership, for a broadcasting licence to operate Sun TV News, a national, English-language Category 2 specialty service that will be subject to the standard conditions of licence, expectations and encouragement for competitive mainstream national news services set out in Broadcasting Regulatory Policy 2009-562-1.

Since the above post, I have noticed that the London Sun channel appears to have abandoned it's program information. Everything is 'DTVProgram'.

Quebecor announced they will shut down Sun TV some time ago. They stopped buying new prime time programming last Summer and started airing only syndicated shows in the Fall. There is no reason to think that Sun TV will not be shut down soon. I am guessing that they are just waiting for contract obligations to expire and/or the startup Sun News before pulling the plug. The lack of guide info is just another indication that the operation is winding down.

I'd say just a formality in case SunTV News doesn't launch before August rolls around? That or perhaps because they are now launching with a Tier 2 license, they decided to keep CKXT on-air and duplicate the content between the two stations, this way they can keep their low channel number on cable so viewers get accustomed to the station.

I am completely baffled by this application. For several reasons.

First, the application. Either they've found a buyer, or they intend to continue to run the same current programming, or they intend to operate the news format OTA.

Secondly, I don't understand the separate transmitter in Hamilton. It frequently suffers with co-channel interference from American stations--often impacting viewers right in Hamilton. Certainly increasing the Toronto transmitter's ERP and changing it's contours would enable Hamilton and area viewers to receive it, thus reducing their costs.

Even with the Hamilton station being much closer to myself, I always tune the Toronto transmitter.

It'll be interesting to see what's planned here...
