Also, they sometimes get carried away with the "Breaking news" in the ticker at the bottom of the screen. On Friday, it seemed almost every other item was Breaking News about Kate and Willy's baby. Do those who have nothing better to do than follow the royal family nonsense have such short memories that they've forgotten the Breaking News from just a few seconds ago? What a waste of bandwidth. My only interest in them is Kate's a hot babe. End of story.
:grin CP24 always gets carried away with "breaking" news. Whenever something big actually happens, their whole staff explodes into action from endless pent up anticipation. I hate how balanced coverage gets thrown out the door so quickly, then they forget how to stop "covering" the same single news item to death. The longer between actual "breaking" newsworthy events, the more likely they are to start calling otherwise-trivial news as "breaking", too.
And yeah, I have zero interest in anything to do with the totally-irrelevant royals. Kate used to be a little hot, but not so much anymore. CP24's Mika Midolo is better... :wink

There's plenty of morning shows besides the one on CP24 and in case people have not noticed they ALL do silly wacky things on other stations too, but people probably do not notice as much because they do not watch other morning shows other than the one on CP24, so yeah they ALL do silly things every now and then on morning shows in the GTA, but because the a lot of the other stations are lower viewership, not many people are talking about it and instead focusing on CP24 because I guess its a very popular channel. I mean walk into any dental office, or doctors office or mechanic shop or mcdonalds or sandwich shop or restaurant or bar and I'm sure you will find CP24 on the screen.

I watch CP24 because it's supposed to be a news channel and for the rest of the day it's good for local news. It's just that"Breakfast" show that seems to have the stupidity. Most days they're OK (I only watch the news part, the other 20 minutes of each half hour is nonsense), but sometimes they're a bit much.

CP24 should save some money and just pre-record a bunch of stories/weather/sports/etc. and run them in a loop and add new stories as they come available.

Hmm, interesting revelation: during an afternoon news blurb about the City of Markham renaming a park in honour of Lloyd Robertson, Jamie Gutfreund just conversationally mentioned that Lloyd's daughter is the director of CP24 Breakfast.

I suspect there may be issues if they "forgot" to mention such connections. One of the things I hate about Zoomer radio is they run something on the news that turns out to be little more than an ad for some Zoomer activity. I also don't like all the inane chatter.

One other thing that's really annoying on CP24 is all those idiotic Oliver Jewellery commercials.

Really? Being from the area but now living in NB, I love seeing those. It's a nostalgic pile of absurdity that reminds me of home. :D

It may be annoying, but Oliver Jewellery has the right to do whatever he wants in his commercials and has the right to buy as much airtime as he wants and he is also free to choose which networks he wants to air them on. To you it's just a silly commercial but to him it brings in customers to his business and that equals sales and sales equals paying the bills to feed his family and what not.

The thing is if you were to ask anyone in the GTA, or most of Ontario, to name a jeweler, Russell Oliver is probably the most famous one. His ads work in getting his message out, and he provides a service - nobody has to sell him there jewelry if they don't want to.

Sure he provides a lot of $$$ revenue to stations in the GTA - especially late night between all the 900 and 976 phone services.

I like watching CP24 but I have to say that Oliver Jewellery commercial is annoying especially when it is repeated every commercial break.

how did this discussion steer waaay off topic? let's keep it on topic folks. If you want to talk about commercials you can't stand, that would make for a great new topic, don't ya think? How about we stick to talking about: Stupidity on CP24 Breakfast in this thread, ok?

Well, it is MY thread about annoying stuff on CP24 breakfast...

I consider those OJ commercials to be stupid and irritating, not to mention played far too often.

How about we talk about Steve Anthony, one of the Anchors on CP24 Breakfast? oh wait, didn't he retire? I remember him from his Much Music days.

I also found he was a good reason to turn off CP24. I'm glad he's gone.

You watch trash programming, you get trash commercials.
When they stick to news, they're fine, a good source of local news. Watch Nathan Downer and Stephanie Smyth, in the afternoon, and you'll see a decent news show.

Something that bugs me is their near obsession with TIFF, every year. Gee, Bell owns CP24, and is the lead sponsor of TIFF... what an utterly pure coincidence that CP24 throws balanced journalism out the window when covering all things TIFF for ten days straight.
It's also getting a little ridiculous how often they ask their "crime specialist" for comment. After they fired Stephen LeDrew, they must have given Steve Ryan his own private office at the station because they bring him in for pointless commentary multiple times everyday, even for news that has nothing to do with crime/police.
