Hi I'm experimenting with satellite stuff and have been for a while...still new. If I got an old bell 2700 or any old expressvu receiver and hooked it up to dish network 110 119 would it download software since its an echostar made receiver?

In the early days of DBS satellite TV, that could be done. Some people switched satellites regularly. Bell and Dish took steps to eliminate the practice a couple of decades ago. These days, there would be few SD signals on either service that the 2700 could receive.
It's unlikely at this time. The footprint of current Canadian satellites do not extend very far into the US.
