What is there?

I've picked up Breaking Bad, which is excellent.

However there are not enough firefights from the backs of trucks, not enough conspiracies, not enough broken glass and not enough helicopters exploding.

What TV series could actually be considered an action show other than 24? And is good?

The only one I can think of is Battlestar Galactica, but I've seen it from start to finish and it was awesome.

Tried the Sopranos for 3 or 4 seasons but that is way too dull, hardly anything happening.

So what's left? I watched Lost, started good ended weak, oh well. Not really action anyway, at least not in the same league as 24 and Battlestar.

Anyone have a suggestion?

nauru - I loved 24 and Battlestar.

There's not much out there in the same vein.

1. The Event - probably the closest, "24 with aliens". They do more than just crash helicopters on this one. You'll like it. It even has the equivalent of the Season 1 really bad Kim Bauer subplot thrown in for a laugh ( the Jason Ritter subplot). Action, explosions, President of the USA is in every episode - just like old times. If this is renewed (unlikely), I half expect to see Jack back to save the world as a guest star.

2. Mi5/Spooks - great action and suspense, but much more intelligent plots and better acting than 24. Very little pyrotechnics. "Smart 24".

3. V - odd mix of Earth: Final Conflict, a police procedural and a 24 type show. Really hit and miss. What was likely the series finale aired this week, and the last half hour showed what this could have been, but fell short of.

Yep, two of the three are likely done. And Gordon Ramsey et al just keep on renewing....

The ideal solution would be to relaunch 24 with Elizabeth Mitchell from V in the lead, Kiefer as her manager, and the Event plot as the main story arc. Oh, and David Palmer comes back as President, because he was really an alien who was revived on the mothership.

You gotta think big when you think Big Television.

Covert Affairs isn't bad. Season one is airing Sundays at 10pm ET on Showcase. It is a CIA kind of thing, but not as intense as 24.

To me, nothing can replace 24 or Lost, except Fringe maybe. I've found myself watching a lot more hockey this year than I did in the past.

To foggy182-have you found it? I have been checking BBC Canada website every week since Season 9 finished airing in the UK but have not seen anything. That is not surprising since last year they started airing Season 8 with no advertising or mention at all.

I just finished watching season one of Covert Affairs and I thought I'd follow up because it features many actors who people who watch 24-type shows will recognize, including a couple who had short term roles on 24. The list includes

Christopher Gorham (played Henry on Harper's Island)
Kari Matchett (guest stared on 24 a few seasons back)
Sendhil Ramamurthy (played Mohinder on Heroes)
Gregory Itzin (played President Logan on 24)

Itzin's character on Covert Affairs is very similar to his role as President Logan on 24. Basically imagine Logan as ex-CIA instead of ex-President and you get an idea.
