All a play on words, really. "Apple" as in the corporation doesn't track user whereabouts, but the iPhone does maintain a log, supposedly for the purpose of finding hotspots quickly. The info is not sent to Apple, nor is it harvestable by apps. The forthright thing to do, though, is to disable that unless LBS is authorised and let the hotspot feature suffer.

His comment that Google actually does harvest location information from Android for ad purposes needs to be validated.

Google (the corp) doesn't harvest locations but Android allows you to share your location info with app's and google search amongst others (all easily turned-off in the standard menus).
